So did the northeast short-haul flights suddenly become unprofitable?
Excuse me while I go stare out the window for a while.
The majority of passengers on the northeast short-hauls are on one leg of a two- or three- segment flight to or from Florida or the islands, because US had no non-stops to the sunshine from either BOS or LGA.
DCA is now used as a connecting hub to and from Florida, so the Shuttle flights to and from BOS and LGA are now populated with fewer and fewer business flyers, and more and more $99 internet fares to Walley World.
