Well that's the beauty of a free society! You get to exercise your God Given right to be stupid!
Instead of debating his stupidity perhaps our time would be better spent praying for his speedy revovery.
I am praying for his quick recovery. He's still an idiot.
One of the reasons ABATE was successful in getting helmet laws repealed is that the way many helmets are contructed can and do contribute to many deaths. The face bar protects the face but it can also cause someone who is unconscious to choke to death on their own vomit.
Drinking the ABATE kool-aide, are we?
Funny thing is, I agree with ABATE--it should be a choice. With that said, to suggest that one is safer without a helmet is so nonsensical it almost defies imagination. NHSTA statistics and medical research are overwhelmingly clear on this point. You are about a third less likely to die and about two-thirds less likely to sustain brain injury if you are wearing a helmet when in a motorcycle accident.
And I know--I had (in 2002) an incident that's almost scarily similar to what Rothlisberger did only I hit the rear corner of the car that cut in front of me and encountered the rear window while on a Honda CBR600 (somewhat lighter than Ben's bike). And walked away.
But what's more telling here is I don't rely upon the performance of my body to earn a rather healthy living. Bradshaw (for the first and only time ever) was absolutely correct--he should ride it after he retires.
But let's look at this even closer: he has to go to work in a helmet.
Let's hope that regardless of whether he had a helmet on or not he recovers and gives all sports fans someone to root for/against.
And perhaps somebody to join Gary Busey in doing PSAs for helmet use.
