I believe it was Kerry who kept bringing up his military career. Remember the convention "John Kerry, reporting for duty"? Wouldn't it be best to have non-military people making political decisions and have the military people do what they do best, and that is to fight wars?

It would. HOwever, that would mean that the non military people who made the decisions to go to war would actually LISTEN to the military people, who know how to fight wars. Bush, Cheney and Rummy didn't do that. Even though the generals said that we would need several THOUSAND more troops, Rummy decided to test his theory of a "lean mean fightin' machine". So far, it's resulted in a nice little quagmire.
There's only so much a stealth bomber can do. It can create the "shock and awe", but it's the boots on the ground that finish the job. Bush STILL hasn't committed the number of troops that his generals say we need.

I was addressing the issue about someone who did not serve at all deriding someone who served two tours.
Personally, I do not see an advantage to having a president with military background or not. I would rather have someone who is well educated, has business sense and who has a firm grasp of economics. Further, I would like to see a president who brings people from a wide variety of back grounds into his/her administration as well as from opposing parties. To do that would encourage a true roundtable discussion and would eliminate the situation we are in now which is to have a bunch of ‘yes’ men sitting around giving counsel to the King.

Anyone care to guess the age of 700IAM? I would say he's about 14 or so. This is a classic case of where a mother should really get her son interested in after-school sports.

The "Old Testament" Messiah
A (non-Christian) Jew in Haifa, Israel corresponded with me for some time a couple of years ago before he stopped writing. Near the end, he called me "dangerous like a police dog," not because I bite people, but because I "tore apart" his erroneous anti-Christian argument and proved him wrong - and he knew it (he later accepted a diplomatic position with the Israeli government, and was posted in Moscow, Russia - I don't know if he's still there now, or if he still visits Daily Bible Study, but if he does, Shalom Victor, thanks again for the screensaver of the mountains in Israel, I still have it). What apparently irked him most was that I took up his challenge to prove my Christian beliefs using only the "Old" Testament, since Jews do not accept the Christian "New" Testament. The reason that I agreed to do so is because the "Old" Testament is all that the early Christian Church had, or needed, and was founded upon. Jesus Christ taught only from the Hebrew Scriptures, just as did the apostle Paul, the former Pharisee (my friend in Haifa called Paul a "Roman vacuum cleaner salesman" - a statement that may just have made me bite him, if I really were a police dog) and all of the rest of the early church. It's not as easy, "with one Testament tied behind my back," but it's all there never the less.
Resurrections
To use the "Christian" belief in resurrections as an example, everything can be proven from the Old Testament alone. That may surprise many Christians, and Jews, but it's plainly there.
First, examples of resurrections back to ordinary physical life (these people would have died a natural death again later):
"And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him ... And The Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth." (1 Kings 17:17,22-23 KJV)
"And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto The Lord. And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes." (2 Kings 4:32-25 KJV)
"And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet." (2 Kings 13:21 KJV)
Job spoke of his future resurrection:
"For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another" (Job 19:25-27 KJV)
The Old Testament book of Daniel speaks as clearly and plainly of the future resurrection, judgment and eternal life for the righteous as any in the New Testament:
"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end" (Daniel 12:2-4 KJV)
I also learned from my friend in Haifa that many Jews strongly suspect that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah but they cannot accept "Christianity," or what commonly proclaims itself to be Christianity, because of its widespread violation of the Commandments, particularly the Second and the Fourth. They are often shocked to learn however that I dislike idols and Sabbath-breaking as much as they do, maybe more. The Christianity that I believe in is based on the Word of God, and only the Word of God. I do not accept man-made Christian, or Jewish, fables and traditions - which are theological garbage. Neither did the Messiah, as He quoted from the "Old" Testament book of Esaias (i.e. Isaiah 29:13):
"Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:7-9 KJV)
