What's new

New AA Union Drive

On July 26, 2010 the petition asking for the suspension of the tentative agreement was turned over to new local 514 President Sam Cirri who was flying to NYC July 28, 2010 to meet with the TWU International to express membership concerns over the tentative agreement and the International's role in allowing it to be brought back.

I told Sam to use the petition like a stiletto knife when explaining our concerns about their sponsoring this concessionary agreement. The letter to Mr. Little explaining our objections was at the top of the stack of signatures.

We were able to turn in over 2200 signatures. Thank you very much for your efforts. Although ballots were mailed out I still believe our petition had a major impact. I believe this tentative will fail and when our negotiators go back to the table they will know the angst of a membership betrayed.

We are sick and tired of being sold out by our own International.

They will represent our best interests or suffer the consequences.
What consequences might those be? Most certainly nothing severe enough to get his attention.

When Kevin and I were running one of our thoughts was to assemble a slate to run against the current International leadership if we had problems with the International "evolving". Betraying the membership invites this sort of action.

The membership could show its displeasure through a massive hand pay campaign. Perhaps paying every six months rather than every month.

Or we could flush the TWU and find another organization that might like the idea of collecting our dues and serving our representational needs.
Teamsters say they won't raid but I bet their answer would be different if we had enough cards. We get enough cards and the Teamsters and IAM would cut each others throats over taking over at American.

Of course, another alternative is to represent ourselves through our own union like the Pilots and F/A's. Their independent status doesn't seem to have hurt them at all. If I had to guess I'd say the company would rather deal with the TWU than these independent unions.

What's your attitude re: AMP?

One of my shop's union stewards is back on his AMFA rants (he said "AMFA" more last night than in the last 5 years) again saying they're (AMFA) responsible for both the new union (AMP) attempt and the info picketers outsider the gate yesterday - that, to me, only makes him and his "union" less believeable as it's evident where his info is coming from. Even less believeable was the comment that the TWU negotiating committee also were AMFA sympathizers. I really wonder how far blaming AMFA for all the woes of the membership is going to go this time?

Methinks a message is getting across and Little Jimmy might be pondering his Christmas Bone-us or lack thereof.

Sorry, but I'm not willing to waste the time necessary to fix the TWU - no way is that possible in the time required. A size 13 boot is the only viable option in that regard.

We are having an AMP card signing party right now at AFW !!!!! Get em in boys, TWU's clock is counting down.

The International clearly does not represent us they represent themselves. This has become all too apparent. I can't blame someone for taking action against the International they are supposed to represent us not help the company plunder us.

I don't blame the company it is their job to get as much from us as possible-we are a wounded work group and there is blood in the water.

I am supporting the actions of our new union president at least until he wavers or sells us out like the last one, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that, ...

The rant of the shop steward is typical of a person who simply believes what they are spoon fed without validating the information. I came up with the idea of coming up to Tulsa to show the international, company and industry that WE are united and WE wish to protect our profession. I can only assume this shop steward read the words on the banner underneath VOTE NO and mistakenly interpreted PROTECT OUR PROFESSION as "Boo, AMFA!".

This shop steward more than likely misinterpreted the Local 565 shirts that Jerry Mishak and I, both Local 565 Title 1 Executive Board members, were wearing, and the Local 565 t-shirts that the other members from DFW were wearing were actually shirts that said, "Boo, AMFA!".

As for the AMP, I see nothing that says "Boo, AMFA!". Perhaps this shop steward is unable to think on their own with facts as they are not as they are "told" to them.

The Cards AARE MOUNTING IN NUMBERS!!!!

Well there is a thing called "ethics". Being unethical is not an excuse.

This is not true? Do Tell!!!

AMFA sympathizers? What do you mean by "sympathizers"? If you imply that someone who was/is an AMFA sympathizers they believe in a craft, democratic union for our profession, (much like the pilots and flight attendants have), you are using the wrong terminology.

You should use the expression "people who hold those accountable who they elect to represent their needs". Why do you try and use the word AMFA as a negative? Should you not direct your energy towards defeating the t/a that is coming to your mail box? There is no AMFA threat at AA so what is it that you fear?

Word is that local 514 is going to change horses again and run a vote no campaign starting tomorrow. wow one vote no picket and a card drive and the TWU is going to start acting like a union again. Fear the only thing that can get the company men off there arse.

This drive has nothing to do with AMFA. This is a drive to better our future nothing else. Its truly sad that a small group of the membership doesn't see this (yet). Please just go to the AMP website and read what its about. Here's to our future GO AMP

I'm filling my card out this weekend and sending it in, i had it with the TWU !!!
GO AMP !!
