New Group of People Mad at AA

Glad to see AA stood up to the environazi's... Then again, WN seems to have dominated the headlines for the past 48 hours, so the rebuttal probably won't be noticed...

We probably make more on our cargo these days. I wonder what they'd say about necessary ferry flights where there are no passengers or cargo. It's all about researching before opening the big mouth.

AA should do like DELL, let customers add $2.00 and up to their ticket price and AA will plant a tree.

Think there would be any passenger/takers?

I know I would do it. 2 bucks a tree I'd do several every time. At least it would shut the tree huggers up!

Well, 1-world member BA allows you to voluntarily (for now) to purchase a CO2 offset for your flight - currently $40-50 (they were asking for $46.11 for my last flight).

IMHO these CO2 offsets are like buying indulgences from the Roman Catholic Church in the 15th century - but I digress.

Good analogy, basically a racket so people with money can feel good about themselves without actually doing anything.

There is another point that hasn't been made. Now, the regulation may apply only to domestic flights (if someone knows, chime in), but I was told that it is a violation of FAA regulations for us to cancel a flight just because of a low passenger load. Though I do find some of our "mechanical" cancellations to be suspect. 😉

Amen...

And QF also offers the option when you buy a ticket thru them. Per some of the folks I know at their HQ, there are a good percentage of leisure flyers who are chosing the option. Not so many at the corporate level (shocking!) but some of those companies choose to do a settle-up at the end of the year. One of the software companies I work with is actually selling a tracking tool intended for large travel agencies and corporate travel departments to keep track of travel and produce a statement at the end of the year for this purpose.

Personally, I see it as CO2 and mirrors.... If every air traveler paid for their carbon offsets and drove a Prius, it would still be a pittance when compared to the impact of animal flatulence......
