New International Route

Obviously, the Indian crew base would be better from a language/service standpoint, not threaten to go out on strike three times a year, and overall be lower cost.

Oh, come on. THREE times a year?

Do I detect some anti-union bias?

Yes, thanks, but I guess I'm misinformed about the range of that A/C.

Obviously, outsourcing all employees, including management with Indians would overall be lower cost.

Not necessarily. Service isn't language dependent, and in the premium cabins where service will be highest the clientele is virtually guaranteed to be fluent in English.

TWA closed its CDG, FCO and HKG bases in 1974 because they went on little sitdown strikes every week or so, whereas in the US we build up to the threat for years and then get it over with all at once.
and overall be lower cost.
You're probably right on that one, but there would be costs connected with keeping a tiny sub-base open, just as there are with operating a sub-fleet of aircraft.

Probably not Mark, but it will make JFK-TLV look like a cake walk.

The maximum range of the 777-200ER version which AA operates appears to be 14,316 km or 7,730 nm.

Bill, if you think the ORD-DEL flight is long, what is your opinion of Singapore Airlines non stop service between LAX-SIN, 8,770 miles, and JFK-SIN, 9,537 miles? The latter flight is aloft for about 20 hours.

Lets see Dror, 9537 - 8770 = 767 miles JFK to LAX? Why were those flights so long? OK, it is all about Great Circles. My opinion about JFK - SIN? About the same as JFK - TLV, "Are we there yet?!!!"

Some more math: 9537/20 = 7484/x = about 15 hours, 45 minutes flying time. And 7730 - 7484 = 246 miles range left when you get to DEL. Not much, especially in Typhoon season in India.

It appears that the 777 will be pushed to its limit. I think SIA uses 744's and Airbus A340 Long Range.

L1011 RET,

SIA uses A340-500 on their Newark to Singapore 18+ hour nonstop flight & the same from LAX. Lax is about 3 hours less. These may be replaced by 777-200LR.

Are you suggesting APA should stand in the way of growth like this? Isn't it good for their members to have such opportunities?

Don't think it was all that earth shattering. If I'm hearing correctly, APA and the company agreed on the crew augmentation requirements which add a fourth crew member on 14-16 hour flights.

Wondering about the fuel reserve upon arrival DEL? Seems like that route is at 777-200 end of the envelop?

I don't think it's too close - after all, Boeing says the 777-200ER (formerly IGW) model has a max range of 7730 nm while ORD-DEL is only 6503 nm. Of course, probably can't max out the pax, bags and cargo and still get that kind of range.
