It is true....

Ever felt like that at 3am getting ready for the first inbound?

The airport I worked at was haunted. Now at this unnamed outsourced airport you have Jabba the hut crossed with a drag queen as a NW manager......

if any of the old workers are missing, most likely manager "it" ate them.

Hey KEV,

Now that Winter is setting in(just look at this snow storm that whacked SEA, and just spread all the way from Michigan to Texas, then heads to the northeast), "this" should seperate the men from the boys.

I wonder how many will quit, just from this storm alone ?

How many will quit, and how many of those who stay REALLY know what they are doing when it comes to deicing??

ATS in CLT, eh? What a shame...

As for winter ops, this last storm we had taxed the resources of an experienced crew quite a bit...I can't imagine what a shift consisting entirely of newbies (motivated or not) will do.

...And we got lucky; this storm missed MSP and DTW. What's going to happen in a place like FAR when 7-10 planes just "show up?"

Ah....NO problem KEV,

They'll just call over the "friendly local FBO"

"Doug" I feel, in matters like this, is willing to "roll the dice"($$$)

If the "dear boy" winds up(over a certain period of time)..."Taking it in the shorts" ($$$$), then mabey it will be, back to the drawing board, but not before(as I suggest) "DOUG" rolls the dice.

Hey, mabey in the (TOO MANY) places, where NW does'nt have their own people, it might be worth "Investing" in that stations FBO 🙄 🙄 🙄

I was told it was a cluster F in CLT yesterday with ATS. I was in our baggage service office & they were taking a picture of a bag smashed into pieces brought in by ATS.

As those of you who work at NW know, a new tradition have developed. As each station closes, someone invariably sends a "Y" message out to all the remaining cities. Some are funny, some are poignant (sp?), all are bittersweet.

Here's one that funny and bitter from our good friends in ROC, who close tonight.

(to the tune of "Jingle Bells")

"Jingle Bells, Steenland smells
IAM sold us out
Oh how sad it is for us
As they pocket all the dough ho

They cut our dime, now it's Christmas time
And never gae a thought
How they ruined lives, without compromise
And outsourced all our jobs

Crashing to and fro with new workers who don't know
What this job's about and mainline stations have their doubts.

51 stations done and 18 left to go
How sad it is to say goodbye and walk out all alone.

Jingle Bells we wish you well and hope you all succeed.
God Bless you all in all you do, may he give you all you need."

--------------------------------------------

Try to have a merry blessed Christmas, and may your new year begin better than this one ended. Love, ROC.

thats good! reminds me of some messages that were sent out when cities at US EAST closed up shop during the first half of last year

Plane delays 1 hr because they don't know how to open the door. Pilots must of had a good laugh. NOT!

A passenger tells me that he was late because the people didn't know how to drive the jetbridge.

Another tells me that at another place the two girls were standing in the plane looking bewildered. "Just sweet as can be..." he says. Then frustrated, asks someone where row 5 is. 😱 😱

Robbed--

There were a few cities whose closing dates were pushed back, ABE being one of them. I *think* the last day is supposed to be Jan. 13th, but I'll have to look and see. NW is having a harder time than previously thought lining up vendors in certain cities.

It seems like the majority of folks (so far) are not following the work to other cities. Out of round 1 (MOT, AUS, and BZN), I think 3 or 4 employees total exercised their seniority into other stations. Round 2 (SDF, CVG,BDL) saw about 8 or 9 exercise as of yesterday.

Does anyone know of how many employees took "severance"
payout as opposed to bumping into other stations? Also
were any stations not outsourced due to not finding
company to handle the work?

Based on what I've seen from the exercise spreadsheets the Bid Desk puts out daily, my rough guess is only 10% or so bumped. Some stations had none at all, and some had a handful (the biggest % were MIA going over to FLL, and SNA going over to LAX).

As for your second question, sadly none that I can see....

As further salt in the wound, some stations that closed now have enough flights to have "lived" in the first place (ie PIT).

Speaking of "handling the work," I mentioned this to another poster via PM, but you may find it interesting as well: a couple of days ago, SYR managed to freeze not 1, but 2 DC9's! In the ensuing panic, they also popped the tail cone off of one. PIT did slightly better; they only froze one.

and what is up with this phone-a-res-agent program at the outsourced stations?

So if the mininum wage workers who couldn't care less about learning all the codes- don't know how to upgrade you (which happened at one anonymous station) you can call them up to do the job?

When you go to ramp training for "actual" NW, if you don't learn all the codes, you're kicked out of class. you'd think they'd want the people handling the tickets to at least be as competent....

Isn't an upgrade a relatively easy function? What happens when someone wants to do future ticketing?!
