But as far as Im concerned, with airlines, Bush should put a gap on mgmt wages and bring back the lost workers from furloughand stop the outsourcing

[/b]Absolutely!

(now please tell who will pay the all these costs??)

Say, why don't you go buy an American automobile today --- you must support the UAW and their right to a $65 per hour wage

The airlines have been a pyramid scheme since deregulation.

You really don't want the gvt to re-regulate the airline industry, and that's what you are asking for here.

If you put a Cap on mgmt wages, then arguably talent within the ranks would decrease.

I know you'll say 'what talent' and I understand why people say that. With 1/2 the industry in B . . . it's an easy thing to say.

NOW, if you believe that there is some correlation between (talent and retention) and wages, then you could be asking the GVT to put a cap so low that you can't get the right people for the job, or they don't stay long enough to be effective.

The idea sounds great when drinking a beer, but won't play out in the real world the way you want it to.

well why not have the govt tell mgmt this: if you are going to take so much from your employees, then you will have to deduct at least 2x that out of your own?" To me that may at least solve a lot of headaches between unions/mgmt and may make it easier to get temporary contracts in place for the time being.

but at usair, even with the top bigwigs then making 6 digits figures, they sure as heck didnt stay long but yet look at where usair is now.
it will be a sight to see if Bruce Lakefield and Al Crelin stay after the 2 yrs is completed.

i disagree. Under Clinton, the economy was very good as i recall no airline employee lost their jobs. Yeah their was pissypoor mgmt but still the employees kept their jobs. Then bush cheats his way into the whitehouse. then 9-11 which is what propelled the problems 3x faster. But as far as Im concerned, with airlines, Bush should put a gap on mgmt wages and bring back the lost workers from furloughand stop the outsourcing

So dont you ever ever call me a communist

Don't waste your common sense on the "Bush-Davidians" because they are a brainwashed lot of fools <_< .

Personally, I think 3 months is too short, for any level of employee. What's the ideal length? I don't know.

It would be nice to see verbage in all contracts that can adjust wages as some point given market decisions. It ACTUALLY does happen to mgmt employees. (I'm looking outside NWA here). It has happened to me. I knew it was coming and I adjusted my lifestyle in anticipation.

It's far easier (contractually) to adjust mgmt salaries than union. You just do it. Sometimes it is actually reduced until attrition becomes unmanagable, and then wages increase and stabilize.

Realistically, for management employees of just about any company, its every two weeks. Thats the standard legal notification period, unless of course you have a specific contract.

Can anybody tell me why the jobs are going overseas? Oh, that's right, someone passed the NAFTA and WTO agreements. If I recall, that wasn't George Bush. Go ahead and point the fingers. Washington as a whole has screwed the middle class. Wake up Mr. Kool aid.

Most labor unions are clueless to what is going on around them. Oursourcing is a HUGE wave that has just started to move across the global economy. Its not just blue collar; on the contrary the biggest area affected in the future will be white collar jobs.

For people who want to get a clue, as a primer I highly recommend reading "The World is Flat" by Thomas Friedman.

Its not about politics, its about market forces and a leveling of standards.

We need to stop blaming others and do someting about it.

VERY WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, he's a commie, just like all republicans are right wing facist fanatics. I read in the financial times the other day that outsourcing is being increasingly looked at as unproductive and a waste of resources outside a limited scope of jobs in an org. I've watched standards of employee commitment and service drop to levels that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Managment tolerates it because they know that for what the pay and job prospects offer they are not going to get much. I listen to people boast on this board at making less than what car dealerships offer for having hundreds of peoples lives in their hands. But blame Clinton, The place never ran so well, and after $60 million spent all they could get on him was a you know what.
