Obama Strikes again

Now he doesn't have to worry about pissing of his rabid base.

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday welcomed a Canadian company's plan to build an oil pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas after President Barack Obama blocked the larger Keystone XL pipeline from Canada.

The new proposal by Calgary-based TransCanada does not require presidential approval because it does not cross a U.S. border. The 485-mile pipeline is expected to cost about $2.3 billion and be completed next year, pending approval by federal, state and local governments.

I bet the TransCanada folks would like to wipe out Nebraska at this point.

Media Advisory - State of Nebraska to Play Major Role in Defining New Keystone XL Route Away From the Sandhills
Lincoln, Nebraska - November 14, 2011 - TransCanada Corporation (TSX, NYSE: TRP) (TransCanada) today announced it supports proposed legislation within the State of Nebraska to move the Keystone XL pipeline project forward. This legislation, introduced earlier today in the State legislature, if passed, will ensure a pipeline route will be developed in Nebraska that avoids the Sandhills.

"I am pleased to tell you that the positive conversations we have had with Nebraska leaders have resulted in legislation that respects the concerns of Nebraskans and supports the development of the Keystone XL pipeline," said Alex Pourbaix, TransCanada's president, Energy and Oil Pipelines. "I can confirm the route will be changed and Nebraskans will play an important role in determining the final route.

Keystone XL May Be Approved in Six to Nine Months, CEO Says
TransCanada Corp. may be able to win approval of its Keystone XL pipeline in six to nine months as the company negotiates with Nebraska and U.S. officials over a new route, Chief Executive Officer Russ Girling said.

“We can re-route this pipeline quite easily,” Girling said at an investors conference in Toronto today. Canadian producers and U.S. refiners contracted to move crude through the Keystone XL remain committed to the project, he said.

this is all on NE. The fact that the local peanut gallery has nothing to refute any of this just adds more support to it.

See Ms Tree's posts. It would seem the Nebraska Governer (republican) does not want this to go through. Go ahead and go on record here and now saying you want the Federal Government to override the governer and his concerns.

Why not, they stepped in concerning healthcare and immigration !

But the main reason Obama won't step in is because this plays right into his energy policy !

Nobama's Energy Secretary, Stephen Chu, "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe" ! DOH !

So are you saying Obama should have told NE to STFU and suck it up? I am pretty sure that republicans are big on state rights are they not. I am sure had Obama told NE to shut up that the republicans would have just been happy as a clam and would not have said boo about him over riding the will of the state legislature and the governor.

Hey may be NE and Obama are in a super secret alliance. Yea. That's it.

You need to put down what ever it is you are smoking. Even Sparrow knows enough to keep out of this one.

Just for clarificatin purposes, can you tell us when it is OK for the Fed to over ride state rights and when it isn't? So far we have:

OK to override
-Oil Pipeline

No OK to override
-Universal health care
-immigration

Aside from the fact that immigration is a federal duty (involves trans US boarder) what else can you add to the list? I am very interested in what you believe are cases where the Fed should override the states.

The Department of State determined the Keystone XL Pipeline did not serve the "national interest". Obama concurred with State and said it would take about a year to determine if an 830K barrels per day reduction in ME oil imports served the “national interest”.

Go ahead and go on record here and now saying you want the Federal Government to override the governor and his concerns.
Sign me up Tech! Obama has been tasked to do exactly that!

According to the Department of State, Nebraska state government has been actively involved with the EPA and other regulatory agencies since 2008. Go to the Department of State, Keystone XL Pipeline website to better understand the requirements to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) consistent with the National Environment Policy Act (NEPA), bring popcorn. The Department of State issued its EIS on the Keystone XL project on August 26, 2011 with full Nebraska Republican support.

The EIS issued by the Department of State on August 26, 2011 states that “The issuance of a Final EIS is one step in the review process and does not represent a final decision on the permit application. As a matter of “national interest” the EIS states “a broader evaluation of the application extends beyond environmental impact, taking into account economic, energy security, foreign policy, and other relevant issues.”

It’s going to take a year for Obama to determine of any of these issues are relevent to serve the "national interest".

No, it's going to take a year for the elections to take place and Nobama can't afford to lose the Tree-hugger vote by installing pipelines across the US !

And Tree, I believe if the Feds won't do their jobs..........immigration...........the States should do it for them !

And Barry, musta missed me since you noticed I haven't been posting here quite as much lately...................been spreadin' the love on other forums...........you jealous or something ?

It is demoralizing for those Southerners. They vote the Republican ticket but whenever one of their own wants to lead they treat him like an idiot step child.

Some times they need to crawl back under their rocks.

Please point out where I said it was ok for Nobama to over ride a state over a pipeline ?
