What's new

PARKER is a real moron!

AWA was given an ATSB loan in 2001..otherwise they would have went down the shitter back then.
At the end 2001 U had a net worth of -1.8 BILLION, AWA +200 Million. The crapper was pretty well clogged with U poo, I'm afraid.

Sorry PITBULL but Randy Malin* and Uncle Ed were not the best and brightest of managers during the merger----many many bad decisions were made during their tenure----though all were'nt those two's fault--union work rules etc etc---the evidence is clear----Southwest Airlines owes all they are to these two folks and our past union work rules.

Passengers Service Employees took major pay and benefit cuts without contract protection passenger service employees took the brunt of management’s labor cost cutting pay was frozen for three years. in 1994 1800 passenger service employees were eliminated which represent 85% of all occupational job cuts that year. In 1991 the defined benefit pension plan was change to a 401k. That same year USAir unilaterally cut back on vacation holiday and sick leave and change work rules. Union employees benefits did not change because they were protected by their contracts.
Passenger Service Employees elect CWA as there representative September 29,1997.Wolf was hired January 1996
Passenger Service Employees got there very first contract December 13,1999 this after Wolf went thru 3 Federal appeals in court to try to get CWA throw of the property. CWA started to negotiate December 9,10, 1997. Because of USAir improved financials Wolf had a hard time obtaining labor concessions form protected work groups.

Oh, please... you have to be sunburnt, to think AWA or USAir would survive without each other...

Without the ATSB or the BK court, neither are around today.

Parker had an interesting tidbit about how much AWA stock would be worth today if bought in 2001. What he neglected to mention was that it took cancelling US-East equity twice, massive employee concessions, and two ATSB loans to get there.

This IS a fact.

The BOD needs to look for a new CEO and President who can manage effectively the 5th largest carrier in the country. The BOD agreed to exec. contracts that rewarded these execs too quickly, and without proven, sustained manageablity of a such a large franchise as USAirways.

Back in 1987, U bought PSA and Piedmont. Within 2 years both airlines merged with USAir on time, culture, contracts with all the bells and whistles that go along with a merger. Within ten years, the airline grew to be a company of over 46,000 employees with an increasd route structure domestic and International. This management can't handle merging a small regional with a legacy, yet. Just imagine if this management group would have successfully acquired DELTA???

Culture intact???? YGTBSM. Ive spoken with former Piedmont people who tell me about stories on how "southern hospitality was replaced with cool northern effincency.". Ive met many PSA crewmembers over the years who refer to USAir and that glorious culture you allude to as "the airline that wiped the smile of of PSA's face" And all that growth you talk about,,,,WHAT GROWTH????? Every time I step on an airplane with USAirways painted on the side it's operated by some other company. At least their employees still manage to smile, which is more than I can say for their mainline counterparts. Culture intact...give me a break

I'm not talking about the virtual outsourced airline U is today. I was posting a historical reveiw by memory... 80s through 90 up to 2001. And If you are talking to the few previous PSA and Piedmont folks who have been with U now for about 20 years...and still hold on to "we've been taken over" mentality like some invasion, they haven't acclamated as one airline yet...and obviously they typically are probably not well-adjusted folks, period with some other maladjusted issues.
