PHL Inflight Director has left the building

Just for fun over a cup of coffee (the $1.00 kind from the crew room), build your perfect Inflight Staff. As flight attendants, we know the kind people we want in their managing us. So if it were left up to us, who would it be. Start from the director's position down.

Hmmm, I had to think long and hard...and at first I was going to write a list of all the silly f/a's that would be silly supervisors and make things fun....but then I really thought;

The best supervisor's are the one's that would not be brainwashed by upper management, the one's that don't carry a torch and think they have hit the "big time" by being a supervisor, it would be people who knew this was a 3 year ride, just to get it on the resume', not to make it a lifetime career, it would be people who knew it was a dead end job - who would make friends and influence people and work conscienciously to become knowledgeable and get recognized for a job well done, so that they could further themselves in the company, (which - the only place to go is PHX), not sit and hide in their office and take "OPR" when it came time to co-fly. The Ideal Sup should have that in perspective so that they weren't out taking their frustrations out on the one or two or five f/a's whose husband/child/mother has cancer and commutes to PIT and has 3 sick calls and 2 Unable to commutes....or whose husband/wife lost her job so he/she is now flying 110 hours and trying to commute home to PIT, LGA or BOS, or LAX or SAN or SFO one day a week to see his/her kids......

This is the way it was back before the dependability program.......people were honored and disciplined accordingly, not now, there is no thinking on the Sup's part, they just send this sick letter and that sick letter and this short block letter and that overfly letter......no creativity

Back when Peter, and Sandy, and Joe A and Joe Mack and Ray and Rick Cangey were sup's, that was a real supervisor position with real pay, and we respected them and they respected the f/a group....how can I respect a Supervisor who can't speak grammatically correct ENGLISH?? 'Well you 'was' supposed to fly 95, and you ain't done that'. Well, that's what you get for 30,000 minus City of PHL taxes which comes to about 27,000 a year.....wow, five hundred bucks a week.....can make more than that bartending....

Anyone else have the PHL dream team from Director down??

Ok, I thought about it, and here goes; first, Warren B for Director because of his business savy; Then Nancy P for her organizational skills, Steve J for his brilliance, Bill C for his people skills and management. Then add Bono and Wycleff for their humanitarianism. So, we have Warren Buffet, Nancy Pelosi, Steve Jobs, and Bill Clinton, Bono and Wycleff, that leaves one position open out of the six so that would go to Peter P because he was the most down to earth Sup US ever had. But of course Peter wouldn't take the job because he makes about $1,000 more a month flying the line.....

Back to topic....

Whitworth is gone...and for good, contract-abiding, honest, hardworking flight attendants in PHL...this is a VERY good thing. Anyone who will purposely lie and then intimidate F/A's to violate their contracts or company policies in order to assure a "smooth" operation of the airline should not be a Base Director.....

Screw Scheduling does that on a Daily basis! So whats your point? Plus Thats what Mgmt does!! Where have You been hiding?

Oh my God- rumor has it he went to Spirit of all places! The man sucks the oxygen out of AIR itself. I have never met a more bitter individual in my entire life but for no reason. DW please show some compassion there and don’t be vengeful as you were here. DW wish I had known you on the level as the big boys that knew the true game.

Baja I have heard you speak about a few people but this guy sounds like he was out for blood. Even with people I found to be horrible managers, you always found some common ground and built on that in the past. Don't know the history but I feel very sorry for the Spirit people if true. Skills are not learned over night, he will take his inept skills there. Hoping PHL is better before I arrive in May! Can’t wait to fly with you again!

Spirit Airlines as quite a few old US East folks working there from the CEO down.. Likely the rumor is true. What is interesting to note that this group of Ex US Managers are leading Spirit to profitability. No sure what that says, however it says something

It says they are not amateurs.

It says it's a great deal easier to run a small purely low cost carrier than it is a legacy one. Amazing what no frills does to the bottom line. 🙂

You all are amazing! How so many of you can sit and ramble on about something and someone you obviously know absolutely nothing about goes to show what this "chat room" has become. Not that I'm a huge DW fan, but I do know talent when I see it and this man runs rings around the other so-called dream team of a supervisory group you feel you so richly deserve in the City of Brotherly Love. Be very careful what you wish for as you may well just get that dream team that goes BY THE BOOK and holds flight attendants to the letter of the law of the Agreement.

You want things in black and white and to be treated "fairly"? Good luck! At least Whitworth had the flight attendant background from our airline (PI/US), the knowledge of how other airlines are run with his time at NW, and how to get things accomplished in PHL. You think the supervisor or manager or director job is easy and worth the hassle for the stellar pay this joke of an airline is willing to pay?! I'm not quite sure what cobwebs are clouding your memory banks on the "glory days" of supervisors like Zimack, Aiello, Peter and Sandy but let's get real! You liked it when they were buds because they didn't do anything except drink coffee all day and shoot the bull!

Now the supervisors are held accountable to a number of checks each week, each month and they have to produce. They can't just sit in their office all day on the outside chance that you will honor them with your presence. And that is, yes, at glorious Hector's direction. Grow up people and take responsibility for your own life and spend less time talking down everyone else who is trying to make this stinkin' airline work! Take your bitter pills elsewhere. It's difficult to get people to go into the office and listen to flight attendants like you #### and moan all day about your commuting ills.

And as far as DW goes, I can only wish him well wherever he ends up......Spirit, Delta, United,..or whatever company is smart enough to hire him. Food for thought - he certainly got hired pretty quickly if the rumors of his demise are true....don't quite believe all that you hear as I don't think he would basically be able to walk right into another position if indeed he was "let go" by this one. Something had to be in the works before anything came down here don't you think? As I said before, be careful what you wish for.

Agreed... I don't like it when people get on here not knowing what they are talking about ...
Dave is the best, and if it's true... that he is leaving... I will miss him. But, I still want to see it in writing...
Dave was never anything but nice to me. He was one of my trainers at Piedmont for initial F/A training and did an excellent job. Last time I needed help with an issue --about a year ago---he responded immediately in a very professional yet personal manner. I for one am sorry to see him go.
