US Airways is paring 52 pilot positions from its Pittsburgh roster in the spring and early summer, according to a new pilot bid sheet for the months of May and June. The loss in positions is due to a combination of retirements, early retirements, medical reasons and resignations, as well reduced flying. Philadelphia is gaining 29 positions, while Charlotte is losing 36. Overall, 88 pilot positions are being lost across the US Airways network, leaving the airline with 2,804, not counting those in supervisory positions or on leave.

Thats not a loss.. Thats a gain!!

Anytime a Pilot at US Airways is cut loss it is a gain for the company.

USA320 would agree with that.. Any Cuts in manpower is a positive for
the company..

Good luck to the pilots that are cut.. JetBlue is hiring.. Take your Airbus
qualifications and get a real job.

You will be a captain in 2 years..

FWIW, there are no plans to furlough pilots because of this bid. In addition to the normal attrition due to retirement, medical, etc reasons, there is a steady trickly of pilots leaving the company (retiring early or quitting, depending on age) to seek other opportunities.

What is happening now is the same as has been happening since 1991, except for a short period immediately prior to 9-11 (when we recalled furloughed pilots and actually hired some pilots - of course, they were gone again after 9-11). Attrition decreases the staffing an equal amount. The increased monthly flying allowed by the new agreement has given the company some breathing room as far as pilot staffing is concerned, but attrition is slowly (or not so slowly) eroding that. For example, during 2004 about double the normal number of pilots left the airline.

The effect of mainline planes leaving could change the picture, but not yet.

Thats a great post..

Just keep this in mind..

Your expendable in the eyes of the company. If they can figure out a way to
contract out flying they will..

Also note that so long as USA320 can keep his job you losing your job is
no big deal..

Thank God for seniority.....

Remember he was cheerleading for out of seniority furloughs.

A320pile-it thinks that he is untouchable. That is why his philosophy on outsourcing is skewed. In reality he is nothing more than a hooray for me - screw you type of individual. Very self centered. Then again, I realize that it's hard to see thru all that "wool" covering his eyes (sound of bleating!!!)

USA320Pilot comments: Can you prove where I said that? If you remember, after the ALPA's RC4 elected to not send out management's September 6 proposal for rank-and-file vote, the company's next proposal eliminated most "scope items" like the 279 minimum mainline fleet count, fragmentation rights, CAR's, and out of seniority furloughs. I did not champion them, but simply wrote of the risks that ALPA's RC4 was creating. Again, why do you continue to purposely misrepresent information? When would now be a good time to stop?

Finally, I believe it is better to help keep the company alive and to offer those leaving a good severance payment, medical benefits, free travel, COBRA, J4J (if available), and recall rights instead of "nothing". In addition, I want the company to provide employment to as many people as possible and to be profitable. For those who are naysayers, can you prove me wrong?

Regards,

USA320Pilot

does this bid (if so i can't not find it) include the return of any mainline planes? what will the Mainline fleet number be and end of june 281????

as i recall, 29 hulls over then next 2years (05/06) will be returned to lessors.

assuming that it would be wiser post summer flying, that would guestimate about 10 -14 planes this year using the standard 13 per 130-182 positions. now what is the age 60 number during the same period??

thanks

320

not enough , pilots still have to take a 25 to 30% cut in pay for this airline to make it.

He mentioned it, but it hardly sounded like cheerleading. There was no "USA320Pilot concludes:" in the post.

It’s my understanding the out of seniority furlough for pilots would be instantaneous and by fleet type, which would likely eliminate most of the non-A320 pilots. The plan would be implemented similar in scope to the TPA hangar closure and we would a lock out, where people like Mwereplanes, Walmartgreeter, BoeingBoy, and two of the RC4 would be furloughed out of seniority, without severance pay, and no MDA option.

If the creditor's force the 150 mainline fleet plan, which the creditor's believe would provide twice the profits, the only way to cost effectively reduce the fleet is to furlough by fleet type and out of seniority.
Respecfully,

Actually its going to be more like 279 hulls returned to the leasing companies sometime this fall..

USA320 is right though.. He would rather sacrafice everyone's job so he can stay employed.. Thats what he meant by keeping the company alive.. He will be the first one in the ALPA group to say "I'll stay for WalMart Pay"..
