Pilot Recall Advice

For such a bitter guy..you sure hang around this street corner alot!

I agree, there are a few ex-employees on here that keep posting NOTHING but negative comments and a few customers that keep telling us what a BAD product we have. Your right Mike, they sure spend time on the LCC board. If you dislike (hated) woking at LCC and you dislike (hate) flying on LCC, why spend so much time here....move on, don't waste your and our time. Were not interested in your two cents already or won't that be any fun. LCC must be doing something right, first class is always full and I'm sure all of them AREN'T freebies and LCC is going to post a very nice annual profit...not bad for such a horrible airline. The customers that aren't happy with LCC...please, go fly with the carrier that fits your taste. If you don't think your getting the quality product and service that you think you expect for the ticket price...move on. Atleast you'll stop B****hing!

Is there any downside to bypassing indefinitely that anyone can think of?

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that if you're not back when the age 65 rule changes and/or a merger takes place you won't have a chance to come back again for some time. Since you have a good job I wouldn't hesitate to bypass (assuming you still consider it a good job of course). I wouldn't think it will make any difference seniority-wise in the merging of a list as long as someone junior to you is on the property.

Of course, ALPA could (and probably will IMO) negotiate away the unlimited bypass for the 190 so your timeline could become compressed and you may not have as much control over your return as you would like.

I expect I'll bypass at least until I can hold a line. No sense in commuting to reserve for only a few hundred extra bucks each month.

What's your DOH Chevyman? Anyone from the 98s and later getting letters yet?

9-18-89 DOH for Chevyman

I just heard the other day from a furloughee that only 1 in 3 are accepting recall. This guy said he was coming back after 3 years of flying the nascar circuit.

I've got three friends who are furloughed. One is at FedEx, one at Southwest, and one flies a BBJ. BBJ guy is considering but others will not be returning. I would assume this is typical after all of this time.
For those returning- WELCOME BACK, we're excited for you.

Swaayze,

It's still a good job, however, only a fool wouldn't look at the options in this industry.

As far as I know the 190 is only in PHL. That's a no-brainer, a two-leg commute to that aircraft, a crashpad in PHL, plus transportation up there would end up costing me money. Charlotte might be doable and we would probably move within 6 months anyway. (I honestly cant imagine moving to Philly)

As long as the bypass option is available I think i'd like to hang onto it. It will be interesting to see what the Republic J4J guys do. Most of them are E170 Captains. I have to imagine they'll bypass rather then accept recall and just end up switching seats in essentially the same aircraft.

I'd like to start seeing some figures published from the furlough admin as to what positions have been awarded to recalled furloughees.

I'm 1/99 doh

For what it is worth, the J4J guys at Republic are accepting recalls but are being frozen there until their replacements are trained. Everyone that has been recalled through the last bid has gotten a group 2 slot with the exception of a few that took the 190 for quality of life issues. Saw a reply from a guy (the anchor man in the Feb 13 recall class) on another message board which stated he got a group 2 position. I believe there are only a few(5CA/4FO) 190 slots on the May bid with the rest being group 2 slots. That's pretty good news for the 160 pilots to be recalled with this bid. To my knowledge, letters of "intent" have been sent to pilots in the Sept. 29, 1989 class.

Chevy---Capt and I were discussing this subject----we thought age 60 change is coming----"IF" the Delta thing happens then more furloughs are sure to follow after the dust settles. Not good for folks below the termocline--BIG crapshoot if you have a descent job---IMHO if I had a "good job" there would be no reason to come back to #1 no retirement #2 nailed to the floorboards for long time #3 bad trip pairings/20 day months #4 ALPO union mess etc etc.

Good luck getting info from our furlough administrator. I've heard virtually nothing from him in the last 4 years.

All very valid points and well taken. I really don't have that great of a job right now. Yes, if the perfect storm occurs as you describe there probably will be furloughs.I really think the age 60 rule is a couple of years out and the Delta deal is definitely an uphill battle. So,for right now I will say yes and hope for the best.

Thanks for the input.
