Reason why you should come to work sick

Yes do tell, what dose "Untiative" mean exactly? And by the way why should Dog do the digging (pun intended) for those stats, you're the one who brought it up. And what ole upandaway actually did was base his conclusion on a false premise.

I am sure (and this would apply to any and all companies) that far more employees take advantage of the sick policies then ruthless managers who punish truely sick people. Throw militant unionism into the mix and I am sure they have more "Fake" sicks then the non union work force!
Hey Sparky, when I was a new hire my car broke down on the way to the airport one time. I hiked to a payphone and called scheduling and told them what happened, and that I would not make the trip.

Later on my supervisor told me in no uncertain terms that you do not do something like that; you simply call in sick (and submit a claim).

Around five years later I actually had a supervisor tell me, during my Annual Review, “You sure have a lot of time in your sick bank. If you don’t use it, you can’t take it with you…â€￾

After 15 years of service, I had over one year’s worth of pay in my sick bank. Oh, and I paid union dues too.

I once heard a worker say the company doesnt pay him sick pay when he is sick so he goes into work. The place he likes to hang out is the managers office. He figures they want him to come to work sick so the least he can do is spread his illness to them.

I wonder if we all did that how many managers would beg the company to bring back a better sick time policy?

Make sure you send a sick person in to see the manager two days before the manager's vacation.

:cold: The company policy with the CWA encourages folks to come to work sick. The first five sick days are paid at 50% your hourly rate. Hence people who are really sick are discouraged from calling off. People who are "planning" a sick day often sign swaps in order to soften the blow to their pay. Those who are genuinely sick can't plan ahead. The policy is flawed. The company should encourage people who ARE sick, to stay home, rest and avoid spreading germs to their co-workers. Perhaps people should get half pay after their third occurrence? It makes a lot more sense to me. It's a win win for both the company and the truly ill.

But we work for a company that can't see the forest thru the trees......and we are still...

Someone actually asked a great question a few posts back. For those that feel you should not be rewarded for "doing your job", why is it management rewards themselves continuously for doing THEIR job by way of bonuses? Usually a lousy JOB at that. Hmmmmm. Speaking from an inflight point of view, initiate an incentive program over the protected holiday and see how your sick calls drop. Calling in sick when your well is wrong but it's done. Those people usually have an FU attitude toward management and two wrongs don't make a right. With that being said the reality is IT HAPPENS. It will CONTINUE to happen until this company can get staffing levels correct, respect employees and most importantly understand that TRYING to rule with an iron fist is not going to work. Management through intimidation like the half cocked cbs letter the company put out for inflight will do NOTHING. Got it? NOTHING. You will experience your normal level of call offs. PERIOD! ! ! ! ! 🙄
