I have a friend who's mother is traveling on her 75th birthday on 3/29, flight #2 (ORD-PHX). He would like to ask if the captain would be so kind as to give a shout out on the intercom at some point recognizing her special day.

I did advise him to request a gate pass from the check in agent so he could help her to the gate and then try to get word to the pilot, GA or FA, but he wasn't so sure he'd be given a pass at ORD to get that far. As she's elderly and needs assistance, I don't think that's an unreasonable request, but maybe there are very strict rules on when to give a pass to a nontraveling person.

Any other tips on how to arrange this in advance?

Or, if you feel so inclined and can get word to the pilot(s) of that flight, PM me and I'll give you the woman's name.
