According to CNN this morning, they have heard of reports that Delta and NWA may merge and cut costs and lay off employees. IF this were to happen, which name would stick and what color scheme would be better?

I hope it is Delta. I don't know how that is determined though. I got slammed for matching Delta and Northwest on these boards and what do you know? You union die-hards better start paying attention.

the report on cnn.com did say that DAL and NWA would explore a merger. but for now they are doing their own trip in bankruptcy.

Actually wouldn't Northwest be the better choice as the name is much better and longer known in Asia. Not to mention of the two Northwest is the stronger one.

As far as your "union die-hards" comment, it is the non-union Delta people who have more of a worry as they would have no one to negoitate merger agreements for them.

It would be an interesting merge. Talk about disparate fleet types and cultures!

Makes the US/AW merger look like it was made in heaven.

The only common fleet type is the B757.

NW Widebodies: B747-A330-DC-10
DL Widebodies: B767 B777

NW Narrowbodies: DC-9- MD-80 -A320 Family- B757
DL Narrowbodies: B737- MD80/90- B757

Never say never..

if there is a merger between the two some a/c will literally go away. i can't see these two carriers merging with so many different types of a/c . i guess just keep the a/c that both airlines have. 757 and md-80.
for a long haul jet keep it boeing . 747 and the 767. drop all the airbuses the dc-9's heck drop the md-80's as well and keep the 737-800's. so the fleet will look like this 747-400/767-300-400's/757-200-300's/737-800. what do you think.

That looks really sweet but how do you get rid of aircraft that are paid for? The DC-9 might be old but its a damn good plane that is paid for. There is still a lot of money to be made with those planes.

According to USA Today, the name has been picked too.

"Delta Orient"

The DC-9 will shuttle home the pilots who fly the 787's out to the desert for retirement. Long live the 9!

I was wondering how the fleet match would be. I would imagine that may be the dc-9s and may be the 88s would go as well as the airbus. although I think DL did operate the A-310 at one time didnt they? plus the 747s and dc-10s

If I recall correctly, they flew the old Pan Am 310's for a little while.

The key to NW merging with anybody would be them parking all of their DC-9s prior to stage 4 noise being implemented in a few years. No airline would want that burden on them. NW has made it work, but i think that will change over the long-term without more mechanics(notice I didn't say they needed AMFA back). I will predict right now that the mergers you see in the next 12 -18 months will be DL/CO and the new US/NW. They make the most sense. The other big kicker besides lack of fleet commonality, would be the DOT rejecting anti-trust immunity between NW and DL. Skyteam wants DL, not NW. This is a big growth area because of the lack of a LCC internationally flying right now. Give it some time, but I think the trigger will be what NW does with their DC-9s.

I have to agree with you. I still think the New U and United might jump into bed together but with all the time we have spent in BK I think that the New U could use the NW bk in the same way and get rid of what is not needed. I also noticed that some of the F/A at NW have asked AFA to try and take over as the Union for NW. It would be good if this were to happen in the event of a merger with the New U all NW f/a would get DOH. What ever happens I wish all the employees at Delta and North West the best. Just Don't listen to everything you hear and try not to let your anger make you to unhappy its going to be a long road.
