Hi all - Not to belabor a wretched point but I was thinking about coming back next recall. My seniority is May 00 and I have been out since 03. I have been recalled several times but have passed for various reasons. I know I am never going to get rich rolling that cart but that diseased part of my lizard brain that likes pain is pushing me to return. I hear things are worse now than ever - *but*... but but but... you know... but.

In addition to the ole "grass is greener" syndrome, I'm hopeful that my seniority will eventually mean something after the lists are merged, etc. Plus I miss my ole job and family there. Am I starry eyed? Can someone tell me if the 40 hour month is just for blockholders that can use the ETB? Should I come back next round?

How are negotiations going? I know the pilots are embroiled in drama. I am curious how things are going on that side too. I hope you guys and gals are keeping your spirits up.

Thanks for any advice -

Am I starry eyed?

sky high states: NOT yet.

EMBFA, I'll hold her, you slap her. <EG>

Seriously, unless you need this job, WAIT. Let the dust settle from yet, another horrendous merger.

We are probably years away from a joint contract and merged seniority list. Therefore, if you can wait, then do so. It also gives time to figure out if this company is ever going to get its act together. You could have a jump start at seniority at another airline which we may all be trying to get on at after this place finally falls to the ground and the storied USAir name finally goes into the history books.

Just my humble opinion.

It is not the same place, job, pay, reserve etc.

Think VERY long and hard before committing.

As a matter of fact, if I were you, I'd go to Continental without a backwards glance.

Take your longing for your "old" life at USAirways and apply that enthusiasm to an airline that deserves it.

Sincerely,
Love being a flight attendant....
but not for this company

Why not give it a try and see for yourself. Remember, generally, the comments on this board are from people who either really love flying or really hate USAirways. Best of Luck!

VAFlyGirl,
The main thing is knowing the contract. It is on line at afausairways.org. If you left at 3rd year pay, you come back at 3rd year pay. That equates to approximately $1540 a month at the 73 hour guarantee. Per diem is $1.90 an hour. Reserve is totally different than it was when you left, there is no passing and trips can be worth as little as just minutes for a one day. Dead head pay is 50% pay no credit and any trip that is split is actual time, no guarantee. The junior reserves are going to BOS and LGA when they come back. These are the things you need to know, mull them over, pour through the contract and then make your decision based on your knowledge, use you head not your heart. Good luck, if you choose to return, hope to see you out on the line.

sky high states: In other words, a crash pad with 20 other people. Possibly, several other F/A's per room, per (hot) bed. That----> http://www.farts.com/ and snoring all night long.

still miss the glamor?

The negotiations are going slow and it's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooonggggggg while before we get a merged contract.

According to the west union, only 6 sections have been settled. There's 20 something more to go and the longer the better.

lol.....

thank you for the candid advice -
can anyone address the 40 hour month? is that just for blockholders who can drop their trips? i can't imagine management allowing a reserve to "time out" at 40-45. (can you even time out anymore?!)
i've been trying to keep up by reading the posts on here - have been doing so for over a year now but just recently "joined." - also trying to watch the town halls on the hub and keeping up with e-lines on the afa site -- it seems like they are fewer and farther between though.
again i really appreciate the wisdom from those on the line. --
(p.s. pardon my lowercase typing)

If the director of C/S sets the monthly max at 90 hours then RSVs can time out at 85.01. There is no 40 hour flying max and then you're done for RSVs. If/when you do come back as someone stated here, you will be based in LGA or BOS and those people FLY. However, keep in mind that you can get a 1 day trip now worth an hour or two with DH at 1/2 pay no credit.

Last week I did a one day that DH to PHL and I worked it back to PIT for a whopping 1+08. I was on duty for 7 hours for that beauty. If you do the math, (rounded) I got about 40 bucks for working the flight, 20 bucks for the DH with no credit towards my timing out. So $60 bucks divided by 7 hrs. = about $6.59 an hour they paid me for the day. My advice, stay where you are or go to nursing school.

That's tragic. I can't believe they are getting away with this S***t !
That is slave wages.

I would talk too flight attendants out online. Everyone on this board is very beat up and negative. I work at express and it will probally be better for me. If your life worked with the old reserve system then you will like it and it wont work for you.

Let me just say that as negative as I usually am on this board...I still love being a flight attendant--all the great people I work with and the places I've gotten to see---even those pesky passengers ! I had a GREAT group of them yesterday coming out of RSW. Presently however, I don't like the company that I work for.

However, that being said, the way this company is being run now is horrible but I still try to have some hope. I'd like to think it is growing pains from the merger and they'll get it together. I really do. However, two years later, here we are so it's difficult to stay positive.
Honestly, if you have something better going on, stay away until the dust settles. Just my opinion.
