Did US ever serve ILG?

I remember UA serving it years ago to boast that they served all 50 states. Now, DL has announced service with the same bragging rights. Having grown up in Wilmington, what a dumb idea in my opinion. PHL and BWI are too close.

Was this ever something considered by US?

Almost positive that US has never served ILG. However even stranger, US used to serve the Northeast Philadelphia Airport(PNE) with close to 6 flighs a day to PHL with Allegheny Commuter flights. Its usually a 20 minute drive with no traffic on I-95!! LOL
Allegheny Commuter also flew to PHL from Wildwood,Cape May adna few other southern Jersey cities

Original Piedmont served GSO (Greensboro)-INT (Winston-Salem)with a 727 (also a short drive down the interstate.) Admittedly it was an aircraft repositioning flight, but you could but a ticket on it.

They also served ORF (Norfolk)- PHF (Newport News.) I think the air time was claculated a 8 minutes in a 737. And that wasn't a reposition flight. It was the beginning/end of a "milk run."

I can see the NJ shore, particularly ACY. When did US stop service to ACY?

But, PNE? except maybe during AM rush hour when it is MUCH longer than 20 mins to go from Woodhaven Road Exit to CC. Also, flying next to the PHL skyline would be nice.

No...but I know of a lot of customers that bought tickets to ILM thinking that they were going to ILG. .

I thought Piedmont served ILG. Does anyone have an old timetable?

Also, I still am not clear why TTN-CLT and ACY-CLT would not work if operated on an RJ.

Shuttle America did TTN-PIT last year I believe.

I am fairly certain Crown Air/Liberty Express (Allgeheny Commuter or USAir Express) served ILG from PKB. I think it was contracted from Dupont.

Anyone care to validate that?

OK, kids, here's the straight poop: Well into the 1970s, both Allegheny (pre-US) AND Eastern served ILG. Both had dropped it by the start of deregulation in December 1978.
EAL had DC-9s into Wilmington until the mid-70s, when the CAB finally allowed them to drop the airport from their schedule.
AL continued serving ILG a wee bit longer, until they retired the last of their Convair 580s in the 1977-78 timeframe. AFAIK, AL did not ever schedule DC-9s into ILG.
Rather surprisingly, when they dropped ILG they dropped it totally, rather than turn over the service to one of the early Allegheny Commuter companies like Suburban or Ransome.

Further ILG history: Prior to WWII, Wilmington had no scheduled air service. The only airfield was the private DuPont Airport, north of town.
Like so many other fields, the current New Castle County Airport was constructed for military use during the war. Following the war, it was turned over to the county, and three of the then-"Big Four" carriers began ILG service during the late '40s: AA. EA, and TW.
TW pulled out within ten years, turning their route authority over to then-tiny Allegheny (originally All-American).
American hung on until 1960, while Eastern, as stated above, stayed around until the mid-70s.

...and that's....the rest...of the story!

I'll second it. I think it lasted about a year if that.

Still amazes me that US does not serve Atlantic City. I would think that would be a good place to at least send CRJ900?? It is only Delta and Spirit. I know after flying from LAX-PHL, I do not enjoy the 60-80 minute commute to Ocean City to visit my family. I would not mind a connection in CLT or PHX to go there... at least I would not have to drive 🙂 🙂

Usair had an express flight from New Castle Cty Airport to, I think West Va in the 90s. I saw it land many times.

I've wondered if the banking community would support non-stop RJs between Wilmington and Charlotte?

I was at the Wilmington Airport about a year ago. A very old terminal building with little vehicle parking. Wilmington holds a FAR Part 139 certificate but does not have TSA. With TSA capped out at the number of screeners it can hire, I'd bet the TSA would require Wilmington pay 100% of the fed's cost to place new TSA screeners at Wlimington.
