the media keeps changing the destination city...irresponsible as usual..don't speculate..wait for the facts when peoples lives and families are involved..prayers for the pax and their families...

The plane was going to GSP. Another pilot said he saw the plane make a sharp left and then turn upside down and into the hangar. MSNBC is reporting all 21 died. Nothing said about any injuries on the ground. There's to be a news conference at 10:00

Here is the Charlotte Observer article with additional pictures.[BR][BR][A href="http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/4900214.htm"]http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/4900214.htm[/A][BR][BR]Chip

My sympathies to the families of the passengers and crew. Hopefully no one on the ground will be included.

This is the last thing that US Airways needed right now.

For your information, the B-1900D is a 19 seat turboprop that is developed from the Beech King Air. The D model is the newer version that had a standup cabin. The aircraft is powered by two PW PT-6 turboprop engines. It has a crew of two, and carries no flight attendant.

Right now, the B-1900 flies for US Airways Express with Air Midwest/Mesa and Colgan Air. Other operators include Commutair and Gulfstream International flying for Continental Connection, and Mesa Airlines and Great Lakes both flying independantly.

I flew the 1900 for a few years, and I have good memories of the B-1900. It is a safe and reliable airframe that served me well.

CNN is now reporting that no one on the ground was involved, thank God.

This link provides a picture of the hangar hit:[BR][SPAN class=BodyFont][BR][A href="http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/01/08/plane.crash/index.html"][A href="http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/01/08/plane.crash/index.htmlIt"]http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/South/01/08/plane.crash/index.html[/A][BR][/SPAN][BR]It[/A] appears to me the damage was done to the CLT heavy maintenance hanger on the northwest portion of the building on the west side of the airport.[BR][BR]Chip

CNN just reported that a small plane has crashed into the USAirways hangar in Charlotte.
Air Midwest Commuter with 19 people onboard.
CNN now reporting that it was a USAirways Express Commuter not an Air Midwest Commuter.

My condolences to all involved. I sure hope there are some better days ahead for USAirways...
