Whether your leanings are republican or democrat,it's time to work together, and here's why.

First of all the real divide in Washington is not democrat or republican it's whether you're a centrist or a globalist.

The real problem with our economy is all the foreign trade bills that have devastated the job base in the U.S. It's an attack on the middleclass, and our country in general.

Obama has made many promises to the labor unions that backed him. Now it's time for American workers to hold his feet to the fire. Rahm Emanuel may be Obama's pick for secretary of state and is one of the reasons why we should hold his feet to the fire.

Chamber urges Obama to defer union agenda
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce urged President-elect Barack Obama and Congress to refrain from pushing legislation to make organizing unions easier until the economy recovers.

The main thing Obama should keep in mind during his first 100 days in office is to “do no harm,â€￾ Donohue said. The new president will face a major challenge in trying to convince his fellow Democrats to slow down on legislation that could hurt the economy, he said.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce?

The most regressive, anti-worker, anti-union lobbying group in existence today.

I agree with you there. It's the Commerce Dept. and the airline industry that are responsible for aircraft mechanics be classified as unskilled/semi-skilled labor. The classification comes from the Dept. of Commerce.

The FAIR TAX would solve all economic woes and create jobs ................in the U.S.

Read the book!

You all can blame the Airline Deregulation Act for your woes.

As to which was coincidentally proposed by a DEMOCRATIC Senator Howard Cannon of Nevada introduced on February 6, 1978. It passed and was signed by DEMOCRATIC Carter, becoming on October 24, 1978.

Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it (in the rear)!

So you don't believe in free enterprise and capitalism? If a business cannot compete on it's own two feet .... buh bye.....

Perhaps....but there's always unintended consequences as a result. Consumer demand for lowest cost fares, along came the low cost carrier cancer. Sure it fueled competition...only at the expense of lower wages and outsourcing and the same time labor unions are $creaming for more, more, more!

Wrong.

Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (and us former ones) can blame Elizabeth Dole and James Burnley IV. Both were DOT secretaries appointed by Reagan. Dole started the charge to amend the FAR's to allow foreign repair stations to maintain US based carriers.

More history is here, during testimony to overturn the rule.

"Prior to 1988, FAA regulations required foreign repair stations to demonstrate a legitimate need to service United States aircraft involved in international travel in order to be eligible for certification. Despite exceptions to this rule, including but not limited to emergency repairs, FAA regulations were directed to ensure that repairs of U.S.-registered aircraft met the most stringent safety standards and requirements."

That rule change started the bleeding of good, high paying airline maintenance jobs to overseas repair stations. That is when the heavy maintenance started to go away. That was the beginning of the end of most airlines' major maintenance facilities.

So what else do you want to regulate? Automotive industry? Home building? Grocery stores? Give me a list. Not my fault labor and management cannot get along and make it work. SW seems to be making a pretty good go of it. Why should they not be allowed to do what they think is best? If they fail, OH well. Some one else will come along.

Sounds to me like you are being hypocritical. Protect labor but do not protect those who need health care or assistance.
