I just came back from Europe yesterday and I have this question, Is it only in the United States that they make you take your shoes off? I am aware that they have plastic socks to wear threw but by the time you get them on, you are all over the floor anyway. Just a thought I had.

I guess no one knows the answer. Neither do I. As much as I hate talking to TSA I will attempt to get you an answer when I go back in on Su. if no one else has replied.

Not only, do I hate talking to them, I am scared off them.

3 trips ago, we were in a rush at ORD' T2 checkpoint and my Dad was in a hurry to place his stuff in the bin. He accidentally dropped the 4 or 5 empty bins on the floor. The TSA gal, quickly grabbed him by the arm and told him if he has a problem. He said no, he's fine, just in a rush. After he went through the metal gate, I hear her go up to a supervisor, and say(pointing at my Dad, so obvious)- let's take him aside, he looks suspicious. I wanted to say lady, you're the only suspicous looking one w/ a problem, but I thought that could be the difference of me seeing the inside of F class on the 737-300 and the inside of a jail cell. So I just saw my Dad get "groped" in all places and pockets by the supervisor after he was let go after 5 minutes. She knew, my Dad was in a hurry, and I think she did that on purpose.

Hey coach..., do you know what happened to that TSA guy in CLT who was checking a pax in the bathroom, but was not supposed to. Did you report that TSA worker. I wonder if he wanted to steal or rape(or maybe both). Some of those TSA people are criminals in nice uniforms.

If anyone desires to know any more about that incident. Go to Flyertalk & I have it all including the outcome in the "travel safety & Security " section.

Let me say this I have been to Europe several times since TSA started here in the USA and I would be happy to pass thru EUROPEAN CHECKPOINTS at anytime comparted to TSA. Last time I came from Germany I left Hamburg in LH flew into FRA to connect to DL (JOKE) I had to pass thru 3 checkpoints between arriving on LH and trying to depart on DL. It was such a nice experience. And NO to respond to thequestion I did not have to take off my SHOES. You want SERIOUS security try flying from TEL AVI or CAIRO I did that back in 1999 and it was even a better experience than our USA TSA.

Are we that short in memory that we forgot the "Shoe Bomber" from London? I think of him every time I take off my shoes.

During this American Airlines flight on December 22, as it was flying over the Atlantic Ocean, Richard Reid — an Islamic fundamentalist from the United Kingdom, and alleged/self-proclaimed Al Qaeda operative — carried shoes that were packed with two types of explosives. He had been refused permission to board this flight the day before...............

To this day, passengers at all major American airports are required to take off their shoes for inspection at security checkpoints.

I have a favorite saying re: any government agency:

"Government, at any level, be it city, state or federal, exists solely to provide employment for the incompetent".

That's not the problem, its the foot fungus' that are the problem. Yes they have the plastic socks, but by the time you get them on you stepped all over the floor area. How many people have foot problems that don't address it for themselves? And do you ever happen to notice that there are no chairs prior to security to where you can put those plastic shoes/socks on. And there are people that walk barefooted even in lavatories. And when I am traveling with my flip-flops on, they will not be coming off my feet.

I understand about the shoe bomber, but my issue here is, if they want to require you to take off your shoes, have some seats prior to security. Then again, being Government runned, they aren't the smartest people around. Look at the two guys in DC for example.
