I agree with you. The real problem is the constitution where the Prez can basically do what he wants. That said, a change in Local leadership isn't going to hurt if the last guy was a dope who was capable of bringing back a trash contract. I hope you guys get a good contract after you vote down the bad ones. The last thing us other union members need at other airlines is for our airline to point to some goofus TWU contract at AMR that sets the bar low for other airlines. Hopefully, Tulsa, JFK, etc are solid enough to stick together when the TWU tries to jam down contracts. I also hope you have some local leaders who have enough balls to stand up for what is fair and to challenge the INTL publically when the INTL tries to manufacture fear.Blah Blah Bkah we all know the real problem is the TWU Constitution allowing International appointments and buying off sellouts that are never subjected to the membership ballot. Yet here we are pretending once again that another Local Election is going to make a difference.
Sam Cirri won the election with 680 or so votes out of 2800 cast and now we have a "new mandate for change"? I don;t think so. barely even half even voted if half at all.
I didnt tally to bad for a guy that didnt buy and single piece of campaign material and never once even ventured outside the building I work in to campaign. I guess you could say my heart wasnt really into getting elected and having to take an oath of allegiance to the TWU. I would find it hard to stand before the membership and take the oath of office in the TWU. So I coasted to defeat, and given my wife is sick and needs me supporting her at this time it was God send to not be elected at this time. The Guardian Angels no best and I'm content, but please don;t think we have solved any of our problems with this Local Election.
You guys have sacrificed too long so the last thing you need to do is have the mentality "Well, the union ain't gonna do no better so we might as well pass this'. Stick it up the union's arse each time as you stand firm for what is fair.
