The U.S. Trustee, an agent of the U.S. Department of Justice who oversees bankruptcy cases, said in court documents it is opposed to the wind-down plan because Hostess plans improper bonuses to company insiders.

The 82-year-old Hostess wants permission to pay senior management a bonus of up to 75 percent of their annual pay so they will stay on and help wind-down the business.

It's pretty standard, and the creditors usually are made more whole as a result of having them stay on. But why let facts get in the way of feelings?

I remember at U it was a big issue with the rank and file but it didn't matter much. U claimed they needed to keep qualified people during the 'crisis'. Heard it at AA too.

Let's be candid, the judge has far more knowledge of all of the in's & out's of the situation. If the Trustee is uncomfortable with their plan there is likely a valid reason. Maybe the Trustee is trying to encourage a way to keep the company a going concern.

If the union hadn't of walked out , their would be no winding down, besides, Hostess is gone , you and the union ,no longer have a dog in the fight, move along !

They all ready had established pay rates, they were given exorbitant raises while workers were taking cuts.

Look at Lee Iccoca, did he take a huge raise when Chrysler was on the brink of going out of business?

Just like Bruce Lakefield, US was in its second bankruptcy on less than two years, he took the employees to court to impose emergency pay cuts on its employees of 20%, he made more than the CEO of WN and B6, which were two of the most profitable airlines and US was failing again.

You lead by example.

Lets take Doug Parker. Last I heard his salary was $550,000 a year. He even spent a year of his salary to buy US stock when US stocks weren't doing too good. Yet I believe he makes $2 million or better a year in CEO benefits, or whatever the politically correct term is for his rewards for "running the company!"

I'm sure that Iacocca made his money and then some. They all do. The ones we don't like are the ones who have the dirt dug up on them and exposed in every detail. But truth be told it happens everywhere and is a common practice. Everybody makes their money regardless of the outcome, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the risk.

Hostess puts off liquidation, agrees to mediation

At a bankruptcy court hearing Monday in New York, 82-year-old Hostess had planned to ask permission to start shutting down its business. Instead, Judge Robert Drain urged the company and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International union to consider mediation.
Both sides agreed to try to work through their conflict, which would preserve more than 18,000 jobs that will otherwise disappear if the Irving, Texas-based company closes its doors. Mediation hearings will begin in private on Tuesday.

The law is written to favor companies, not the common worker.

I guess you have comprehension problems, I had a contract that provided me a pension and a nice wage, yet they used the court system to screw the workers, the same laws dont exist for that to happen to the executives.

Look at WN, highest paid, highest and most consistent profitable airline, oh and by the way the highest percentage of a unionized workforce.

The airlines arent a free market when laws are used to screw the employees while the executives profit.

The law in favor of the employer is a given. They supply the jobs, and in today's market anyone is replaceable. The last Continental workers were given the boot as a new outsource came that may even replace Air Wisconsin. Is Republic union? Amazing how many people come to apply for the airlines, even if the pay and benefits aren't what they use to be.

I'm curious about something. I noticed that the AA pilots and other unions are negotiating for a contract with AMR. Did these people's contract expire or are you forced to negotiate a contract if a company goes into bankruptcy?

Union dues cannot be used to given to a political party or candidate, voluntary pac money can be.

Unlike corporations who can give millions to candidates or parties with little regulation.

Funny how you left that fact out.

In my area, the teachers(not their powerful union) gave heavily to the Obama campaign. Betcha he got the message. But you underestimate the true political palm greasing. True Corporate America greases the palm of both candidates...just in case.

I get a kick out of how ' corrupt ' other nations are. Grease this palm to get this done and such. It isn't any different here at all, maybe worse.

Please show me where the government is force feeding healthy foods to our youth. You still have the right and ability to feed your kid all the double cheeseburgers with super size fries, and a 44 oz soda.

Chicago Public Schools officials on Wednesday unanimously approved a healthier snack and beverage policy that bans the sale of items like Gatorade, energy drinks and whole milk at schools.
The new policy also discourages selling candy or cake for school fundraisers as well as the distribution of candy in classrooms during holiday parties or as rewards. CPS said it's part of an expanded health initiative that would help align the district with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Healthier US Schools Challenge and First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative.

Airline CBAs dont expire, they become amendable. AA and APA never reached and agreement and the judge abrogated their contract and AA and APA are negotiating for a new CBA.

No kid is forced to eat anything that the school provides. Send your kid to school with all the junk food you wish.
