What's new

TWU,TEAMSTERS AND AA

What would we have to look forward to by bringing the Teamsters in?

Having our local in Houston...hey that would be handy - kinda like the SFO LAX deal the IBT has going on at UAL.

Paying an extra $350.00 in dues every year...for a strike fund we will never use!

Having the IBT attempt to take our frozen pension cash to try and bolster their failing pension funds.

Now I hear the IBT is trying to get the ramp as well, hey lets try the strength in numbers thing again, it's worked so well for us.

Or the thought of having more UN-ELECTED, self serving, industrial union types cutting deals with the company behind closed doors.

You know what? No Thanks

This is from one of 1AAs previous posts ...(emphasis mine)

Here are the existing locals that the Teamsters will assign us too.

DFW- local 745 4,500 members.
HOU- local 19 2,400 members. This will be the Tulsa Local. In Texas? WTF?
LAX- local 856 6.900 members.
MIA- local 769 11,000 members.
NYC- local 210 9,200 members.
ORD- local 781 4,000 members.
STL- local 618 2,300 members.

Is this accurate?

Are they really talking of assigning the LAX mechanics to Local 856?

That local is here near SFO, why wouldn't they put your members in Local 986 which is where UALs current LAX mechanics are assigned(and HALF our SFO mechanics too)?

Local 986 is in El Monte, Local 856 is in San Bruno about 5-10 minutes from SFO.

No Thanks IBT.....
Central States Funds is only one of hundreds of pension plan’s the IBT have and The IBT has never said we would be placed in that fund they did mention: (THE Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Plan)
WTC is an example of a strong multi-employer plan provided by the Teamsters. With the WCT, the Teamsters Union provides the largest multi-employer pension plan in the country. It includes more than 230,000 participants covered through agreements negotiated by Teamster locals with about 5,200 employers in 13 states. All contributions for coverage are made by the employer and benefits increase the longer a participate remains in covered employment.
The IBT Did said:
• THE MEMBERS CHOOSE. Once you are Teamsters, you will decide your pension through member participation and contract ratification. The truth is that the Teamsters could not and would not ever force you into ANY pension plan. You, the members, will decide which type of retirement plan YOU want. Whether it is a Multi-Employer Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution,or some other type of plan, the choice is YOURS!
• YOU WILL NOT LOSE YOUR EXISTING PENSION. You will not lose any pension you are already vested in. Federal pension law, namely, the Employee Retirement Security Act (known as ERISA) requires that once you vest in a pension, it is yours and cannot be taken away. Your pension fund has a fiduciary duty to you to protect and preserve your pension assets and pay you according to the rules of the plan – whether or not you change union representation. The Teamsters
cannot “TAKE” your pension and put it somewhere else. You earned it and you own it!
• YOUR NEW PENSION MUST BE NEGOTIATED. We realize you are concerned about your pensions as well you should be. It is important to remember that you will never be placed into a new plan until it is negotiated with the company and you – the members vote to be put in it. Your Future, Your Pension, Your Decision.
• THERE ARE GOOD OPTIONS. When the time comes to negotiate your new pension, the Teamsters will work with you to educate you about the options. The Teamsters have hundreds of pension funds and other retirement security options for you to consider. Committees made up of rank-and-file members will be involved in this process.
• WATCH OUT FOR SNAKE OIL. The TWU and IAM like to highlight a weak Teamster pension plan and ignore all of the good plans and options. This is a lie by omission.
• IT WILL TAKE EXPERIENCE AND CAPACITY. Retirement security is a critical benefit and it will
take the experience and resources of the Teamsters to negotiate a new retirement security
benefit for you at the merged airline. No other union has the ability to do that.
HAVE A NICE IBT DAY 🙄

I think he is mixed up because of our 856/986 thing here. My guess, is the LAX members would go to 986. But who knows? I will give you guys the Local (which is sometimes not very "local") argument. Trying to keep members within the airline division has it's benefits, and it's drawbacks. I still have mixed feelings about it, and our situation here in SFO.

Don't get me wrong, I see no real harm with our shared Local, I just have not completely swallowed the idea as the best.

You have a good point in there Vortilon. Just think how many underwater mortgages could be purchased if you all go to amfa instead? Just think of the money they could pay Seasham to take you frozen pensions? If amfa can't negotiate a contract, they might as well make the attorneys rich, right? Maybe they could use some of this money to learn more about the NMB rules? Apparently charging amfa $8,247.00 to research NMB rule changes was not enough. YIKES 😱 😱

amfa NEEDS MO MONEY for STUFF..... VOTE AMFA !! 😀 😀

..........Just kidding.... Don't be stupid.

Since the subject of teamster pensions is on the rise again, allow me to post again a video showing exactly why you DON'T want to have the ibt in any way involved with your pension/retirement.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6sMMGkAIAU

Remember as you watch this....this isn't an AMFA/TWU/IAM organizer speaking ..... this is an ibt International Vice President, who was directly involved in the Central States Plan.

As he says in the video .... "if they can do it to me, they can do it to you"

Are you truly that ignorant?

I wasn't highlighting a weak teamster pension plan and ignoring all of the good plans, I was highlighting the teamster hierarchy which cut deals that crippled their own members pension plans.

That hierarchy is still in place and NOTHING prevents them from doing the same thing/cutting the same sort of deals without your knowledge, if you ended up in ANY of their pension plans.

try opening your eyes once in awhile.

To be real, TSH, You are highlighting a campaign for IBT General President. I know you to be smarter than to believe all the spins and mistruths that come out in any political campaign. Fred Gragare is most definitely soap boxing by explaining half issues. Whats the real story with Central States? Come up with a non partisan explanation and I will carefully read it.

OK...Miss-informer, Your an idiot 😛 😛 😛

.......... Allegedly.... 😀 😀 Sorry. You make it too easy to mess with you.

Sir!
I have a choice to what union I want and you have a choice to stay TWU / IAM or Vote AMFA if you so wish. As I posted the members vote on which Plan they will be in or the IBT also has 401k’s or both. But as always it is voted on and if a member doesn't like the plan he or she can opt not to join. No one can force you to join a pension you don’t want for whatever the reason.
As for myself, I have had it with bottom level wages that IAM and TWU have. IMO it’s time for a change! If this makes me ignorant (as you call me) in your eyes so be it. Just remember Majority Rules.

If you are upset that AMFA was booted from UAL and lack of support at AA I feel for you Sir.
HAVE A HAPPY IBT DAY! Sir……………
VOTE IBT!!!

What is it that you're questioning?

Did the teamsters get card check for Overnight? - Yes

Did the teamsters allow UPS out of central states to the detrement of that pension plan and its members? - Yes

You didn't know this already?

BTW I really enjoyed the fact that you allude to a serving International VP of the teamsters engaging in ... " spins and mistruths"

While Fred happened to be telling the truth in this case, its nice to know you acknowledge the teamsters will lie/deceive when it suits their particular purpose.

Thats good to know.

Spare me you self righteousness, I never challenged your right to choose.

The subject was teamsters pension plans, and I offered a major point of concern as was reflected in the video link. This threat is an existing threat to ALL teamster plans.

You chose to accuse me of trying to focus on one bad teamster plan and a lie by ommission.

Your post :

WATCH OUT FOR SNAKE OIL. The TWU and IAM like to highlight a weak Teamster pension plan and ignore all of the good plans and options. This is a lie by omission.

When you make false accusations, expect to get called on it.

Spin is a tactic many use to try to engage others towards their camp; even you do it.

Explain how "card check for overnight" related to the problems at Central States?

Yes, the IBT allowed UPS to exit. Can you explain the reasons the UPS members wanted out? Would you rather the union force them to remain in a fund that had overextended? Not the first or only plan to do that during recent years, by the way. I'm surprised you did not already know that?
