Thom McDaniels did a good job over at SWA. Why not have the International appoint him to head our negotiations? A leader who goes out and pleads the companys case to the press while his members have already suffered a nearly 40% reduction in real pay is unfit to lead. Sign the petition if you agree that he must be replaced.

Where it says city please put your Local.

I'm sure he'd gladly trade in the commute from SFO every week, but in the context of what the panel in PHX was discussing, John's answer was spot-on.

Perhaps the real problem you have is accepting a union official who recognizes economic reality for what it is?

Well thats par for the course, a management lakey defending a company unionist.

Conley,(chicken)Little, Yingst, Orlando, Kosietek....................It does'nt matter, because you can't VOTE to keep these **** Suckers out of office.

Thinking along the lines of a CANCER, with the above mentioned cowards,..........The ONLY way is to totally Excise The TUMOR,..................meaning getting rid of the TW Useless altogether !!!!!!!!

(But then of course,....there is ALWAYS the 2 "mountains" that need to be scaled, that are blocking the way.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Mt. DFW..........and..........Mt. TULSA")

Having only been in Texas(DFW) about a 1/2 dozen times(in over 20+ years with AA), and "NEVER" in Oklahoma, some one PLEASE try to help me UNDERSTAND HOW the majority of the SO CALLED "men" in these 2 places, keep voting for a union, that THEY KNOW is bending them OVER, and giving it to THEM "in the shorts" ?????

I mean, would,nt you think that these same "so called" MEN, would fight a BLOODY battle, if they were incarcerated, and were approached by "Bubba" with a smile on his face ?????????

Someone/ANYONE.......please help me to try to understand the rational Because where I come from, to KOW TOW would get you an AUTOMATIC A$$ Kicking from the vast majority of everyone else !!!!!

No, I'm defending the argument that unions are essentially screwed and incapable of overcoming the reality of economics.

One or two might succeed in bringing down their employers, but they are still powerless to change the price of oil or where the economy heads...

That's a cold, hard fact, Bob. Kicking out Conley or even the TWU won't change a damn thing.

United's AMTs are now on their third union in five years. Do you really think the IBT is going to be able to undo all of the damage done by the IAM and perpetuated by AMFA? If you do, you're admitting that AMFA was outclassed and incapable of serving their members...

Probably because they realize that unions don't really do a whole lot for their benefit, and you might as well keep the devil you know... You and Bob have been brainwashed from birth about unionism. Having lived in quite a few red and blue states, I don't see where the rest of the country has been hoodwinked into the false sense of security that still persists in the Northeast.

Bears, perhaps the people you denegrate so often from DFW and TUL have actually done more good for AA's unionized workforce than not. AMFA is now a proven failure at both NWA and UAL. Had they been elected in at AMR during either of the last two elections, it's possible that AMR would be in the same boat as NWA, ALK or UAL -- no overhaul, no pension, and very little job security.

The cold hard facts are that when there is inflation (7.5% for the last year) workers must demand more in order to survive. Executives dont seem to be held to the same "reality of economics" that you speak of, they get raises and bonuses regardless of how much of the stockholders money they lose. $100 a barrel or not the airline still needs workers. As long as thats the case unions can get raises.

United's AMTs are now on their third union in five years. Do you really think the IBT is going to be able to undo all of the damage done by the IAM and perpetuated by AMFA? If you do, you're admitting that AMFA was outclassed and incapable of serving their members...

Did I say that? I think going to the IBT was a mistake for UAL since the only intrest that the IBT has is destroying AMFA, not helping airline workers. They proved that by declining to go after workers at AA and other AFL-CIO represented airline workers. Our problem is that pour unions keep us fragmented and that has more to do with our inability to get raises than oil prices or airline profitability. If we were under one union then that union could set prices to the highest price the market could bear, just like OPEC. If the IBT had announced they were going after the whole industry I would have supported them, but I wont support them using the mechanics at UAL as a means of exacting a personal vendetta.

Brainwashed from birth? What do you base that on? My parents were never in a union. I went to Catholic school and was taught by non-union teachers in a Conservative Institution. Maybe I was brainwashed against abortion and divorce but unionism realy wasnt part of the curriculum. One thing is for sure, that I did see the benifits of having real unions. Those who worked under real unions made more money, died less often on the job and generally lived better than those doing the same work who were non-union. Thats learning though observation, not brainwashing.

Bears, perhaps the people you denegrate so often from DFW and TUL have actually done more good for AA's unionized workforce than not. AMFA is now a proven failure at both NWA and UAL. You left out SWA.

No overhaul? Like IBT represented UPS and Continental?

No pension? Who has No pension? I believe that those who went BK went to DC plans instead of DB, but a DC is still a pension.

Job security? Come on now, there never was job security in this industry, no matter where you work or who represented you.

You dont believe in unionism and thats why you like the TWU. As our representative Conley should be making our arguement, not the company's. Inflation is hurting us even more so because this inflation comes on top of a huge paycut, a double whammy. AMR on the other hand has increased their revenues by $5.5 billion since we gave those paycuts. Yet today the airlines still charge very low airfares. Those increased revenues have more than covered the increased costs of fuel. Those are facts, not economic assumptions that you call reality.

Unions have never "brought down" a company, companys fail due to poor management. Give me one example of a company that was run correctly by management but brought down by unions.

Conley has chosen to go out and champion the company's plight while staying silent about ours. He is supposed to be our (appointed) spokesperson and he is derilict in his duty. The last thing that we need is for our representative to go out and champion the airlines plight, everyone is well aware that fuel costs have an impact on the cost of airline operations but many are not aware of the double whammy that has hit his members, a 25% paycut and at least another 15% loss of buying power due to inflation. If Conley talks about the price of fuel he should target the oil companies and their windfall profits as the culprit and not say that the workers should just sit back and accept less so the oil companies can make more. Thats what Conely should be saying. He isnt, and thats why he must go!

At least the UAL get to vote on another union unlike the TWU who is in bed with the company and use every resource to affect the results of an election by including DEAD and RETIRED employees.

I also guess that realities of economics do not apply to executives.

The best we can do is keep the stock price down to affect the PUPs due the execs.

You are a typical twu lackey
The only way to change the corrupt system is to get rid of it. Yet you choose to perpetuate the "we are powerless to fight" mantra.
Some or most of us would rather try to change the way things are by then believe that we are powerlesss.
Seems to me everyoe is making money off our backs. That goes for the oil companies, airline execs, union officials, everyone except the employee.
So either we try it with a different union, or new management. Once AA fails the color on the tail will change and maybe a profitable airline will emerge. But the constant fleecing of the employees has to stop at some point.
Maybe reregulation is the answer maybe consolidation is the answer maybe one union across the airline system is the answer.
I do know what we have now is not the answer. If you are that "brainwashed" not to see the alternative then you are clueless.
We are not powerless to change the price of oil. The fact is people are willing to pay whatever price it is. There will come a day when America wakes up and says enough is enough and parks the SUV and purchases a compact car that gets 30+ MPG the demand goes down supply goes up prices will fall. If these airlines cant afford the gas bill then raise the ticket prices why should I subsidize the low fares. Let XOM subsidize it.
Let the execs donate the PUP payouts to offset the cost. Have GE dump some money into the fight. AA uses enough of their engines. There are alot of others beside the working class who can offset the fuel its time to make it happen. Hell the FEDS bailed out Bear Sterns why not have them buy the fuel.

Eric,

I've got YOUR "brainwashing" RIGHT HERE in my Right Hand !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most likely you have Cable TV. GOOD !

Then TUNE the ****ING channel to the HBO.. series...JOHN ADAMS, if you want to know "ME" !

Questioning Authority(when needed) is a GIFT that we here in NY/New England obtain from the Womb !

Standing up,......Resisting against Tyranny, or TRAITORS(twu), is a trait learned at a very early age here.

SPARE ME/Bob Owens/Hopeful/LGA Fleet Service...your BULL SH!T, that because YOU happened to be working in JFK, and rode the subway, ate Sabretts or Nathans hotdogs that.......YOU were on the same "LEVEL" as us natives

Denegrate AAers from DFW/TUL ?
ONLY THE ONES WITH "NO BALLS", and Unfortunately they are at least 50% + 1.
As for the guys/gals from TUL/DFW that have demonstated that THEY are SICK and TIRED of AA's/TWU's BULL SHET,....................I BEG to KISS their FEET !!!!!, because THEY are as good, OR BETTER than me !!!!!

Spare me the comparisons of unionism with patriotism... If Washington's army were carrying union cards, Fenway Park would be a cricket pitch...

Please, do us all a favor, and have New England and NY declare your independence already, and please take Kalifornia with you while you're at it.......

I also guess that realities of economics do not apply to executives.

The best we can do is keep the stock price down to affect the PUPs due the execs.

The current stock price has nothing to do with how much the lucky 850 or so execs get in this year's PSP payouts.

Their contract provides a fixed dollar amount based on AMR stock price performance over the past 3 years ended 12/31/07, and that fixed dollar amount will be paid to them in as many shares as it takes to pay that amount. AMR stock price goes down, the PSP execs just get more shares to equal their fixed dollar value. For example, if they're due to get $80 million this spring, then they'll get 10 million shares if the stock is trading at $8 at the time of distribution. If the stock falls to $4, they'll get 20 million shares. It rises to $16, they'll get 5 million shares.

Keeping the stock price down for the whole year won't really make a difference either - since AMR plunged last year yet the execs will get payouts anyway. As eolesen pointed out a while back, all that matters is that AMR outperformed the peer group over the past 3 years, and since some of the group was in Ch 11, their stock went to zero. Not a hard target to surpass.

The realities of economics most certainly applies to execs; the execs at AMR have made a fraction of what they could have earned at profitable companies, where execs make truly astounding, obscene compensation. eolesen, hardly an executive with AMR, left for tons more money. He recently posted a summary of others who have left AMR for piles more money than they used to earn.

As I've posted before, despite the concessions, AA still gets enough people to show up for work everyday to keep the airline operating. The paycuts certainly suck, but they weren't large enough to cause substantial numbers of employees to leave. Until that happens, expect more of the same.

Seems that Eric's definition of patriotism is to be anti union and let corporate America continually beat the working man and woman into the ground while they pad their own pockets all in the name of trickle down economics.

Patriotism is defending your nation's ideals selflessly. To try and compare unionism to that is an utter insult to those whose blood was spilled defending the idea of America.

I don't see a lot of selflessness at play with airline unions in general. What I see is "what can we get for ourselves, and the rest of the employees be damned" over and over again.

Fact is that workers in the US have prospered far better under our oh-so-flawed system than workers have in places where workers of the world united.

Then again, maybe I've just missed news reports on how succesful the Soviet economy has been of late. Or how much social services in Venezuela and Cuba have surpassed those of the US, or how China's education system is so good now that universities here are suffering from the loss of applicants...

Yep. Capitalism might suck because you think you're not getting enough of the pie, but it's a helluva lot better than the alternatives out there. Go do some travel outside the first world and see firsthand just how good you have it. Don't spend a week on the beach in Mexico -- go spend a week in Hermosillo or Nuevo Loredo.

Y'all are so fracking spoiled.... you really have no idea what it means to "beat the working man and woman into the ground while they pad their own pockets" until you walk the neighborhoods in places like Guadalajara, Leon or Toluca. Gated communities for all the upper class, and dirt streets for the "working man and woman" because there is no middle class.

Yep, our system really sucks.

That's why so many people from Mexico, Honduras, Guatamala, etc. are willing to risk their lives walking thru the desert just for the chance to be beaten into the ground here.

Yup, your right Eric,

AND just as soon as the poor bastard gets into the US, some BIG AGRA-BUSINESS Mother *****R, who Publicly decries the scourge of Illegals, PRIVATELY gives Raoul a job for $5 an hour, with a $1 Kick Back.

"Thats the DEAL Raoul...........Take it, or leave it" !!

OH, and to your "crack" about NY/NE breakig away from the USA, ........The BIGGEST mistake Honest Abe Lincoln made was...........................RECONSRUCTION !!
