UAL / IAM contract Question.

Catering isn't represented by the IAM as far as I know. They're under UNITE, which also represents LSG Sky Chefs, Gate Gourmet and Flying Food in addition to restaurant/casino/hotel employees and dining car employees at Amtrak...

I'll assume the drivers are also UNITE.

The drivers are part of UNITE. They are not IAM (which is ramp & stores).
They just unionized a either a couple of years ago, and they were moved to the Airport Operations Group at the end of last year. Which is why I was wondering why the RFP or move to outsource them, since they brought them in to the group. Chelsea was always a separate operation - at arms length to CO/UA.

If that were to go down, it would be smart to transfer into the ramp (they would have priority before going to the street for hiring) since hiring is starting due to attrition and retirements. Only thing is that they would start at the bottom, but they would keep their Company seniority (for flights and furlough). Once they are either bought out or outsourced, they will lose all of that.

Thanx ' T5 ' !

PS.

R U in ORD, T5 ?

EWR. We have a large kitchen here, so I know how things work.
The drivers now have the same uniforms that we on the ramp wear, except they have purple accents on their sleeves instead of blue that the ramp wears.

I know a lot of people that came to the ramp from Chelsea. It is definitely an upgrade, but you will start from the bottom (Occupational Seniority). The good thing is that you keep your Company Seniority for vacations; boarding; and furlough purposes. So a one year member can have three or more vacation weeks, instead of the standard two, due to their company seniority. But if the food division gets outsourced, they will lose everything. If things go south, more people will try to get to the ramp (which I would recommend) if they want to keep flying or remaining with the company.

Like every other job nowadays, people are needed.
