Uniforms

You have got to be kidding me. Women wear sneakers with a dress?? And men have ponytails?? Nor undershirts to cover up the nipple rings??

If that's true, not one person on the east should sling the trailer trash arrow at the west side again. <_<

IF history repeats itself, the AWA police will be put in place. Beware! We use to have mandatory uniform compliance checks, randomly, and during our anniversary/reccurent date every year at HP. You went into the office with luggage, and were spot checked for full compliance. Sups use to walk around the briefing room and hot room doing random checks. Sometimes when you checked in, you would get an SBS message to see a duty sup for uniform check. After 9-11 our sups would carry around an uniform clipboard and hand out tickets, like a police officer. You could either get a full compliance ticket, good, or out of compliance, bad, and we are talking inches for skirt to short/skorts, etc. Shoes, heels to high, and such. Either way went into your company file. So watch out if this becomes reality!!? Mgmt justifying there jobs? 🙄
We might have been a regional junker of an airline, but you were expected to always look professional, Jackets, ties always mandatory, and follow company uniform policies to the tee! Was the east ever this strict? 🙂

Oh, yes we were pretty strict about the uniform. They'd even measured the size of our earrings. So much so it was overkill.

Now pendulum has swing too far into the other direction. I don't want the uniform police out there again but for gods sakes girls....wear some pantyhose and a bra!!

Unfortunately there are many among us who need the uniform police to teach them how to maintain a professional appearance since there has been nothing in their background that they could use as an example. Many of the new hires think that Flavaflav is a snappy dresser and they want to look just like him. Cleanliness , posture , good hygeine , manners and the like are foreign concepts. In many cases we are trying to make a silk purse from a sows ear.

We'll America West Airlines used old school tactics, and will try again!!? 😱 😛h34r:

This is one area that AWA will have no quarrel from me. I have spent my whole career looking textbook and being embarassed when I have to go through an airport beside someone who should
a/ know better
b/ knows better but thinks "they're special"
c/ doesn't care
d/ the worst: is an idiot.

The only time I have ever been addressed for a uniform violation was a particularly nasty sup who took issue w/ my SMALL, tasteful earrings. I nodded and bought new earrings. Life is too short people, just wear the damn thing. You can look like Cher the other 14 days of the month. The beauty of a uniform is that your income (as small as it is) can be diverted to other needs.

Listen, back when I was in training the day before we were to be in class in full uniform they must have said 50 times if not 100, "NOOOOOO Banana clips" for the womens hair. Sure enough a woman came down in a banana clip and it was Bye Bye.... 🙄 We had uniform compliance checks too on the east. As the two bk's occurred and we had our pay cut and everything else a supervisor wouldn't DARE come near us to tell us our tie was off or skirt to short. They would have got blasted. Not right to look like crap but that was the mindset. Your gonna cut my pay? Well I'm not wearing a tie, ironing my shirt, putting my Crystal Gale length hair up and will wear clogs with tights and a dress. I think thats pretty much how it went.

T minus ten days and counting!! Everyone get your camera phones ready and we can play a game I learned called "the golden hangar awards" (obvious word play on hangar/er)

Find the most obnoxious interpretation of the uniform and blur the face so we can protect the offenders identity. Then post it here so we can all have a laugh. If management can't force people to comply, putting their no panty hose fat rolls galore too short two pigs fighting over a blanket dress display will probably do them some good.

The thread will probably get rediculously popular as people who know better browse to see if they got caught.

Too mean-spirited or much needed reality check? I VOTE DOOOO ITT!!!!

Sorry, call me "old school" if you want (and I'll take it as a compliment) but I have NO problem with uniform compliance measures and never have, as long as they're reasonable and fair. Far too many F/A's out there seem to use their uniform as an opportunity to make a personal statement about their individual fashion style. Look up the word UNIFORM in the dictionary. Your company attire (no matter how ticked off you may justifiably be with your company) simply shouldn't be open to individual interpretation by each and every F/A on the property.

DITTO!

I agree with uniform compliance as well BUT I do NOT agree with management coming down on individuals for a uniform when there are other areas of the company falling apart. Things are improving in certain areas but others are still CRAP. It just causes HUGE resentment to nitpick a f/a for a ponytail too long or earrings larger than a quarter. If we are going to have people walk around doing that they better hire employees to do that kind of BS in all departments of this company. It's a joke though some of the outfits I see are jokes too.

The only person that any offending FAs should have a resentment towards is themselves. The rules are black and white (not gray like our contract) and have been made perfectly clear by the powers that be ad infinitum.

If a female shows up to work looking like Belinda Carlisle from the Go-Go's era with hair spiked all directions and wearing huge hoop earrings then she should be issued a non-punitive warning. Caught a second time then perhaps action does need to be taken. I used the Belinda Carlisle example because I actually saw it. The girl looked like she should be frolicking with her band in the back of a convertible driving through West Hollywood than a professional representing the airline and profession aboard an aircraft. 😱

Like, yeah, US FAs are totally into the Go-Gos.

Great catch on that!! I thought I was one of the only people on the planet that ever noticed that old USAir 727 coming into LAX in the Go-Gos "Head Over Heels" video from 1984.

For those of you who may have never seen it (or weren't even born then!!) check it out. You'll see the US plane about 3/4 of the way into it.
