It amazes me that so many have nothing positive to say about anything on this site!
I guess having the paint peeling and the remenants of the JD power award sticker on the old East paint scheme is classier??
I just dont understand why we are focusing on painting all the express carrier planes with the new livery when there are so many East mainline planes in need of a paint job?
Well, judging by this site, you and your friends are easily amazed, so no surprise.
As far as peeling paint goes, you have to repaint planes every few years regardless of whether they are in a dark livery or in a Fred Flintstone takes acid and vomits on a cactus scheme. Even a child looking out the terminal window always points at the navy one, not the "Crap" one.
As far as a JD Power award, you must be thinking of TWA. You are correct that US Airways did win several awards, including Airline of the Year in the Airline Quality Rating. What did America West win? Best airline in the desert besides Southwest? Better than Mesa? Better than last year? Flip Flop Airline of the decade? Wait, I know... most variety in color and size of seats in a single cabin!
As far as painting the planes goes, let's think common sense here. All of the America West planes are now US Airways branded. The real US Airways planes are already branded correctly, and since the 737s will only be around a few more years, I'm sure many of them will wear the blue on that last flight to the desert (how ironic!)
When you refer to Express planes, I imagine you mean Mesa since that's the only Express carrier in PHX (is there anything outside of PHX?) Their aircraft are the only ones still carrying the America West name and Pac Man fellatio logo, so they are probably a priority. It's confusing for a customer in CLT to see the title America West Express and that zany looking plane when they were expecting US.
All of the other Express carriers wear US titles, regardless of livery, so no rush. All but 3 of AWAC's 70 aircraft are in the swooshorrific look because that happened after they joined. The E175s were post-HP also. The PSA fleet and the E170s were new before the merger so will probably be the last to sport the Worldwide Carrier look. Any other aircraft are painted as the time comes, there are a handful of ghettoed out Saabs and Dashes.
Oh yeah, the sticker? That was for Star Alliance, to which we belong. It's the largest airline alliance in the- You know what? Never mind, it's too amazing, you wouldn't get it.
You know what folks, it's really the diagnol stripes (heat waves?) running through the horizontal lines of the logo that makes it look so 9th grade art class failure... Maybe if they used a different logo?
