What's new

Unveil new A321 colors

It amazes me that so many have nothing positive to say about anything on this site!

I guess having the paint peeling and the remenants of the JD power award sticker on the old East paint scheme is classier??

I just dont understand why we are focusing on painting all the express carrier planes with the new livery when there are so many East mainline planes in need of a paint job?

I don't remember ever seeing an award from JD Power. I think you're talking about the Star A sticker on the front. I think most of them lasted about a week before there were only little pieces left. As an aside the new livery has kind of grown on me and I'm starting to like it. IMO it looks nice on everything but the 330 although I'm not much of an art person and have no clue about where to place a swoosh with times new roman. The old navy blue used to look really nice but it didn't age well and as we all know faded and often left half the paint job everywhere but on the plane. Just my opinion but I think the New Delta livery and the last TWA livery were the best looking of all time (well at least during my lifetime).

Well, judging by this site, you and your friends are easily amazed, so no surprise.

As far as peeling paint goes, you have to repaint planes every few years regardless of whether they are in a dark livery or in a Fred Flintstone takes acid and vomits on a cactus scheme. Even a child looking out the terminal window always points at the navy one, not the "Crap" one.

As far as a JD Power award, you must be thinking of TWA. You are correct that US Airways did win several awards, including Airline of the Year in the Airline Quality Rating. What did America West win? Best airline in the desert besides Southwest? Better than Mesa? Better than last year? Flip Flop Airline of the decade? Wait, I know... most variety in color and size of seats in a single cabin!

As far as painting the planes goes, let's think common sense here. All of the America West planes are now US Airways branded. The real US Airways planes are already branded correctly, and since the 737s will only be around a few more years, I'm sure many of them will wear the blue on that last flight to the desert (how ironic!)

When you refer to Express planes, I imagine you mean Mesa since that's the only Express carrier in PHX (is there anything outside of PHX?) Their aircraft are the only ones still carrying the America West name and Pac Man fellatio logo, so they are probably a priority. It's confusing for a customer in CLT to see the title America West Express and that zany looking plane when they were expecting US.

All of the other Express carriers wear US titles, regardless of livery, so no rush. All but 3 of AWAC's 70 aircraft are in the swooshorrific look because that happened after they joined. The E175s were post-HP also. The PSA fleet and the E170s were new before the merger so will probably be the last to sport the Worldwide Carrier look. Any other aircraft are painted as the time comes, there are a handful of ghettoed out Saabs and Dashes.

Oh yeah, the sticker? That was for Star Alliance, to which we belong. It's the largest airline alliance in the- You know what? Never mind, it's too amazing, you wouldn't get it.

You know what folks, it's really the diagnol stripes (heat waves?) running through the horizontal lines of the logo that makes it look so 9th grade art class failure... Maybe if they used a different logo?

EMBFA- Here is some history of America West...you might be suprised at the many achievements (including winning the JD Power Award) that our little airline accomplished before acquiring US Scareways! At least we have employees that take pride in our accomplishements...some could learn that when you take pride in your place of business, how things can improve on the daily operations...and thats without having a drink of koolaide.

are we gonna start this fing east and west thing again!! both hp and us reached great achievments in the past. but guess what ? we are both in the same freakin boat!! we both suck !! so lets stop trying to be better than the other!! as far as the paint scheme goes. it is what it is. you don't have to like it. worry about your pay and work rules instead of the colors of the a/c!!
we are one fing airline now!! get over it!!

This constant bickering and name calling is getting really old and you guys are not going to like what is coming down the pike if you dont knock it off. This will be the one and only warning on this thread that the next person who continues down this path will be off the board for a week. Continued posts of this nature on the board are going to soon result in zero tolerance and no leniency and I dont think anyone here really wants that to happen?

One way or another, and just as another poster said earlier, the livery is direct rip off of the old Leisure Air. That's reason enough to hate it.

As for the swoosh, it's a device that's supposed to follow the stripes of the flag logo on the fuselage to the tail. Unfortunately, it's a device that fails miserably and simply looks ridiculous.

All in all, Tempe has done a poor job of branding. Take PHL for instance. Our marketing department directed that the boarding walls be painted white. In a matter of a week after pulling down the gray wallpaper (that an actual graphic designer created for US in a design we actually own) and painting everything white, the walls were philthy. Have they been cleaned since? No. Furthering the branding issues is how Tempe is repainting baggage carts, tugs, trucks, etc from the old standard US Airways gray to white. The cool blue and red stripes with the logo have now been replaced with a blah sticker with a navy background with a white flag logo and wordmark. Why?
