What's new

US 734 at Tampa makes hard landing.

watch for US to get sued for out dated and faulty equipment in aircraft cabins.

Hopefully this will move the ATA and FAA DOT to enforce carry on limits AND limit weight of carry on bags to NO more than 5 pounds.

Check those bags !!!! If cargo fills up then the pax will have to send it UPS/Fedex.

That's not realistic. You know as well as I do that 25-35 pound carry-ons will need to be carried by folks who don't check luggage and are doing overnight business trips somewhere.

Sorry, I don’t check bags. Heck, even my laptop bag weighs more than that!
I am so tired of the carry on bag situation. I wish we could go back to the way it was years ago. You could only put your coat in the overhead. I can not tell you how many injuries we have had due to falling luggage, because somone has opened an overhead stuffed to the gills. I see it all of the time, along with the blood. So to those who reduse to check their bag, I say thats fine. Hang out here with it as long as you would like. It probably likes staying home just fine!

Billy Mays had heart disease and died from a pulmonary embolism. I have an EMT background and it looks like US is NOT in any way responsible. It might be likely that he had a thrombectomy somewhere that was dislodged by the hard landing and ended up in the lungs.

If it was indeed a heart attack than that likely is good news for US Airways. I would expect that the medical examiner had looked at the skull and brain for signs of trauma and maybe he has sent tissue to the lab for more analysis to rule out a closed head injury. Regardless, it is still very sad.

And you know this how????

You don't use medical terms very well.

Question answered. It was just on Fox News that the coroner said it did appear that the death was due to heart disease.

He was also taking some pain killers for his hip, but they don't think that had anything to do with what happened.

RIP Billy.

I stand corrected... I read my post later and saw the mistake.

Insert thromboembolism, rather than thrombectomy which is what he needed sometime before yesterday.

Has there been any word if the tires blew as a result of a poorly executed landing? Could it be possible the plane bounced and then landed on the nose gear? I hope it was a mechanical problem rather then pilot technique. If I remember my 737 days (like decades ago) the 73 was as easy to land as a 172.
Hey "CaptBud",
That's one heck of a "hope" that you have, It's always easier to "pass the buck" to a "mechanical" problem.

Off the subject but that's why Jacko's family wants a second autopsy. Somebody is hiding something.

Now that 443 has ferried back to CLT for additional inspections and repairs, can anyone shed some light on the extent of the damage? Besides replacing the nose gear and the right engine, it looked like there might be some structural damage as well. Heard some talk among mechanics and pilots that the plane landed nose first. Properly configured, that is a hard thing to do. I don't want to spread unsubstantiated information here, but it wouldn't surprise me if this bird makes one more flight to Mohave.

What say you?
