That settles it then. Someone on a Belgian internet forum says we're getting two A330's. Take it to the bank.

And, of course, the destinations...actually only one. PHX-BRU-PHX. (Parker said it will take two airframes to serve any European destination out of PHX.)

I think you will find that due to Chinese New Year and a supposed lack of A340's due to Boeing's several month delay on the 787 that these are the aircraft going to Beijing. These are actual excuses that US Management have used so your guess is as good as the rest of ours. Can not fathom that someone that ordered Dreamliners from Boeing would buy up used A340's but that is what has been said!

I am wondering if these will be used to PEK?

Does anyone ( hello..."BigBusBoy"?? ) know the answer to this question?
Q: Are those two Swiss 332's the ones with three-class (12/42/142) config...or the two-class (48/142) congfiguration?
If it is the three class type, with 12 flat bed seats COULD they run it PHL-PEK because of the low number of seats and offer the beds as an "Envoy+" type of service? Perhaps it might give it a sufficient range without too much weight restriction?

I am not sure which config. the two a/c we are getting are.....does anyone here know ?

Thanks.

They will rip out the 12 F seats because seeing how other airlines offer a product makes them feel inadequate, which, of course, they are.

They will replace whatever type business class seats are in that cabin with the monstrosities that they are putting in the 767.

They will set the pitch in coach to their normal 30 inch deep-vein thrombosis, allowing 180 coach seats. Then, they will block all but 25 of them so they can get to China non-stop.

Or something like that.

Or we will be seeing them used on the new daily service between PBI & FLL...the O/D numbers are just awesome with all that traffic up on I-95 during rush hour...in all seriousness I think US is TRYING for A340s but just where will US get them anyways...I'm willing to bet the A330s we just acquired from Swiss is probably going to be used for PHX or LAS on an new Europe route, it won't be seen in PHL anyhow or CLT perhaps.

I have heard from a Mech. that these will prob be for the China service. Due to the lack of 340s out there.

profound observation... do you read preceding posts, too?

i pray--for the sake of pax stuck on whatever inferior aircraft team IMPOtempe decides to use--that the dot revokes this award. somebody needs to call regional-parker out on his lies!!

I may be wrong, but are these not the 2 A332 that US stated they will be leasing from the ILFC? I was under the impression that LX was returning them to the ILFC which US will in turn lease.

I too suspect they will be used to fly to China. Bash Tempe for not leasing A340s as planned, but my guess is that they know they can not profitably fly that plane on the route for the next 7 years with fuel prices at these astronomical levels. It would make much more since to fly around a smaller A332 with a favorable J Class/Y Class seating ration and concentrate on carrying higher-paying passengers. This of course assumes Tempe can put together a worth-while J product, or Intl Y product for that matter.

For the record, QF flies a 332 in a 36J/199Y configuration from LAX-AKL which is about 350 miles shorter than PHL-PEK, but in a more east-westerly direction, so a similar configuration ought to work.

Highly doubtful, I think the only way you'll see this in PHX/LAS is for a welcoming ceremony

It still may very well be a bunch of hogwash, but I suspect what they mean is that due to the delay in the 787, current operators of the A340 are holding onto them longer than anticipated, although I can think of any specific airline where this MAY be the case.

Boeing bought Singapore's A340s when they ordered the 777.

There are A340s available, US is just too cheap to buy them.

They let AC's go to someone else.

And No Passengers over 125 pounds

Hopefully the DOT will then conclude that US told a fib on it's application and revoke the route authority. Give it to an airline who is prepared to serve a route with the equipment in it's application.

I bet it has more to do with the pilots. A340's would be a new type that would have to be added to the existing contract, ie the east's contract, and the west would never agree to that...

The A340 rates I believe are in the East CBA.

It is all about Tempe being cheap, there are/were numerous A340s available and they could have new builds if they were ordered in time.
