OTOH, now WalMart is the largest company in the US (in terms of sales and employees), yet many of their employees qualify for social assistance.

A congressional report estimates the taxpayer pays $2100 per WalMart employee in welfare costs, for a total of 2.5 Billion dollars annually.

There is much at WalMart worthy of imitating. But socializing their costs while privatizing their profits is not one of them.
