US Airways to File for Delay of PHL-Beijing

Not just US.....

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/unit...&dist=msr_1

Fuel was $60 when we filed for route authority.... now $130... what is confusing? The airline operating environment has changed greatly in the last year.....

Here's a novel idea. Price the product for what it costs to deliver and add a few percentage points for profit!

Not enough takers? Stop making the product (in this case give the route authority back to the DOT.)

This would also apply to US as an airline in general- correct?

Well, yes. But I don't want to overburden them with such complex economic theory all at once.

All airlines are in the same boat right now with fuel. SWA might be an exception, but they really don't have the capacity to fully control prices. They can undersell everyone else, of course, but when their loads reach 100%, the market is then free again to set its own rates. And there is still enough demand that SWA at 100% load factor is not all that significant.

It appears that American understand this and is making baby steps toward pricing their product and decreasing capacity.

The unfortunate part right now is that oil prices are affecting everything to a greater degree each day as the economy strains to compensate. We, as a country, are headed for an economic implosion of monumental proportions and this administration seems to be content with its head in the sand.

To dougweiser, and the fella's at Tempe,

AA will gladly take "it" off your hands, and fly it @ $50---$100---$150 a barrel, and will make it profitable in the Very near future !

1-800-433-7300,..................Give us a "jingle" 🙄 🙄

So, what do we do if the DOT turns down our request? What if they say, either fly the route when you agreed to or it will be awarded to someone else? Do we give it up, or do we go ahead and get the aircraft and begin service even though it will be a big drain for awhile?
