Well I may agree with you except that they drug their feet with the a/c decision for how long? I think they are just using fuel as an excuse. They always have an excuse for not being able to follow through on anything and whether it's fuel or not the Senator in PA needs to hold their feet to the fire. They need to start being held accountable just like the rest of the employees. Its a very good and sound decision, and I am for it.
Now, the people that are using this as yet another reason to whine, would also whine it US started up the route and dug tons of money into it.
It never ends.
The Tradition continues...
Didn't want Japan in the 80's
In the 90's, couldn't con the pilots into wet leasing the Japan route 'till we got widebodies
In the 00's, bailed out on China after a truly halfhearted effort
But how many of current upper management were at HP when the Japan flights operated......HP flew to Japan before wouldn't you think they would have known how to run an Asian operation?
They failed. All you can say is that they know how not to do it, assuming (giant assumption) they learned anything. You can blame HP on the 00's though...HP flew to Japan before wouldn't you think they would have known how to run an Asian operation?

"principle sake"? are you ******* kidding me?!?!?!?So.....for principle sake, they should waste a pile of money on the route now, just so they can look decisive?
I'd say that delaying this is pretty accountable.
The next logical question should be, if we're to assume fuel costs stay in the $120+ range for the foreseeable future, does LCC plan flying the route ever? Perhaps DAL could request the route, though the pending NWA merger makes it highly unlikely they'd be awarded it. I suppose UAL might make a run at it.
Delete...mis read the quote.A wise (and expected) decision IMO, even if US had 2+ 340s already inhouse.
Well had they had the d@mn planes already (or at least had planes on the way) and had they begun to start putting things together like training and such and then this announcement I could possibly understand as there is other places (Europe, Middle East, India) that we could use the planes right now. I do not need to sit here and rehash all of the idiotic and half @$$ed things that this group has done over the past 2-3 years because the entire nation along with every employee in the industry is well aware and that my friend speaks for itself!!So.....for principle sake, they should waste a pile of money on the route now, just so they can look decisive?
