I think it is impossible not to review US announcement without considering Delta's massive quarterly profit report yesterday of $1.37 billion. On one hand it confirms what the DOJ claims that consolidation leads to increased fares, but on the other hand US profit was "only" $367 million. I say "only" because Delta's profit was 3.7x larger than would be US profit, and yet Delta approximately 2.5x larger in terms of passenger enplanements. Another way to look at it was that Delta's profit margin was 8.6% vs. US at 7.6%. Which supports US/AA Management claims that they cannot compete in the long-term against the much larger competition of DL and UA.
you should probably wait until UAL reports its profits... I strongly suspect that US and AA's profit margins could surpass UA's.
should we then hold AA and US to the same level of profits that UA makes since they are the largest?
Delta is giving back the 5th week of vacation to employees who have 20 consecutive years.
And even with the 3% raise they are still making less then before their chapter 11 filing. Go read the DL board, the 5th week vacation thread so thinks aren't honky dorey there.
and yet in all of those posts you failed to grasp that DL employees who don't call in sick often get MORE vacation than their peers at other airlines because DL gets 7 days of personal time off that can be used for sick time or for extra vacation time. And DL's vacation schedule adds vacation time earlier than its peers at other airlines. So many DL employees actually get much more vacation than their peers at other airlines... and oh they don't need a CBA to get it.
Since you are so astute at reading those financial reports, 700, did you find the value of profit sharing that US recorded for its employees in the most recent quarter?
tick tock, tick tock.
there it is.
$42 million.
Did you happen to see the amount of profit sharing DL employees that DL employees gained in the most recent quarter?
tick tock, tick tock.
there it is.
$249 million.
And DL's profit sharing from this point forward (as well as part of what was announced yesterday) is being accumulated at the rate of 20% of earnings.
DL employees will easily blow through $400 million in profit sharing for this year... maybe a half billion.
More vacation, profit sharing.
Crazystnic is right.
Maybe WT is onto something.
And maybe DL employees really do have it good, no really good.
And maybe robbed is right that you folks at US are shoveling money into your bosses pockets onto to be given the opportunity to pick for lint afterward.
