VOTES ARE IN

OK now help a poor customer understand your math.

Approximately 2,200 F/A's in PHL, 795 of whom voted. Since when is 36% a majority of anything.

Of the 795 who voted 274 voted for JM or 34.4%,

Of the 2200 total only 12% of eligible voters chose JM.

I'm just real interested in how the vote can be construed as a Majority by any definition of the word.

This is not a knock on JM. I met him once on a flight. Nice enough guy. Maybe he will rise to the occassion and lead. But to say he had a majority of the vote defies the basic principles of Math.
Piney, you are right. The "majority" did not vote in JM, the "majority of voters" did, and it's a moot point. The 36% does not surprise me; it speaks to the apathetic society in America today. (Speaking of which, been to the DMV lately? I rest my case..)

Let's hope that JM knows what he is doing; would like to see some sort of Eline from him, anyone know when that is coming??

Actually the correct word is Plurality!

From Wikipedia:

A plurality, relative majority or simple majority is the largest share of something, which may or may not be considered a majority, i.e. it is the largest group/category, but is not necessarily a majority (more than half). In the U.S., simple majority has another meaning. The plurality voting system, also known as "First past the post", elects the candidate who is the stated first choice of the plurality of voters.

The meaning of "plurality" depends on how the elements are categorized. For instance, in a room with twelve people: three Germans; two Englishmen; two Canadians; two Mexicans, two Guatemalans; and one U.S. national.

Considered by national origin, the three Germans are the plurality;
considered by continent the seven Americans (Canadians, Mexicans, Guatemalans, and U.S. nationals) are a plurality;
considered by primary national language, the five anglophones (Englishmen, Canadians, and U.S. nationals) are a plurality; and
considered by both continent and language, the four Hispanic Americans (Mexicans and Guatemalans) are a plurality.
However, only the seven Americans, when considered by continent, constitute a majority (more than 6). In the context of voting, this ambiguity can lead to coalitions of greater or lesser stability.

The smallest possible plurality is (v+1)/n, rounded up, where v is the number of members of the group (voters) and n is the number of categories (candidates). Thus in a 5-candidate plurality election, just over 20% of the vote can theoretically win.
You may now return to your regularly scheduled Sudoko

  You Funny Guy

My point is this. Whether it be a presidential election or a local union election the REAL winner is:

"Mr or Mrs, I don't give a crap whomever the rest of you pick is OK by me"

Which is a perfectly fine candidate to elect until something you don't like happens then it's eternal hell fire and damnation on that individual who was elected.

Sadly whether or not Mr McCorkle is up to the task of leadership he will have 64% of the base that decided who leads them is irrelevent and that is alarming whether it's the tooth fairy or JM!

And You Care Why?

Because I Like John And He Will NOT Back Down To This Company!! Like Some Of The Other USELESS LECP'S We Have Had Here In Philly! I Know, I Have Been Here Since The Base Opened! That's Why I And The Majority Voted For Him..We Are Sick And Tired Of TG And Her BullS@@t Group!!

I know John and he will back down.
Those who voted for him were self-deceived.
He is a fake.
Plain and simple.
He will lie to cover his own ass.
That is the trademark of cowards.
I'll give him 4 months till the membership wakes up again, and he will be out in 2008 if not sooner.

OH for crying out loud your team lost. The same 3 people on this board tried their hardest to get your dog elected. CD was never not even a contender. I realize only 40% of PHL voted, they have to live with that. Bottom line its over give them a chance.

Hopefully, they take away the bid sheet!!!

TAKE AWAY THE BID SHEET!!!
TAKE AWAY THE BID SHEET!!!
TAKE AWAY THE BID SHEET!!!

If I say it enough, maybe it will happen!!!

I believe those days are numbered
Let me guess...you're a reserve. Well it ain't gonna happen. All we have left is that bid sheet and our seniority.

Not as long as your around.
It ain't over, it's going to evolve.
He's got his chance, let's see what changes come, if any.

Yes...I am sure "humpty dumpty" will solve all the problems.

I would like to thank the members of Council 70 that took the time to vote in the recent election. I would also like to extend my congratulations to the newly elected officers. While I wish the turnout were better I thought it important to thank everyone that supported my candidacy.
I hope the new administration will chart an aggressive new course toward correcting mistakes of the past and gaining back what we lost. This is probably the most critical time for change and I hope no one will squander this opportunity. Lets try not to divide between blockholder or reserve and understand the company is looking at our apathy with a mix of laughter and opportunism. Lets make sure we are left smiling in the end of this game.

Thanks again-

Very nice post.

Come on folks. The pitting between blockholders and reserves needs to stop!! We all need to join together and stand as a group for the betterment of all!!!!
Sally, I see that you are fairly new here. Welcome. It's not that we are trying to pit BH's against RSV's. What most BH's don't understand is, what goes on below their seniority level. Out of site, out of mind. Most do not realize how bad it is. Most will just fall on "We all took paycuts.". That doesn't cut it, due to the fact that they go into every month knowing they will get a full months pay and full per diem. That is not the case with a RSV. A Rotating rsv system would wake a few people up to this issue. But not to worry, our fearless leaders would never go for that. They will just say. "We are grieving it" Why didn't they grieve the hell out of no Pref. Bid. Becuase it wouldn't be a good system for BH's.

Let me guess...you're a reserve. Well it ain't gonna happen. All we have left is that bid sheet and our seniority.
Wow, I don't know how you do it. Full paycheck ever month. Full per diem every month. SAP every month. Bid Sheet option every day. ETB every month. Hang in there. Help is on the way, you poor soul. But not to worry, we all took paycuts.

Let me guess...you're a reserve. Well it ain't gonna happen. All we have left is that bid sheet and our seniority.
Are you serious? You really think they are keeping the bid sheet? Sorry to upset you....but it is GONE! GONE GONE GONE...ya know..BYBY..SEE YA!!!!! Its gotta go...sorry!

I am truly stunned at not only the winner but the voter turnout. I think the Philly f/a base as a whole is a mess. There is NO reason for such poor voter turnout. What was the blame? The weather? We have no choice now but to sit back and watch where this newly elected team takes us. ANYONE that is in the presidents seat in local 70 would have to know that they are going to be watched to see if every "i" is dotted and "t" crossed. Well at least I thought so until this turnout. Let's all just hope for the best. Those that DID vote at least take pride in the fact that you voted with Union Pride and was heard.

Okay, let me clarify myself.........John will be representing both BH and RSV flight attendants, so like him or not, he will be representing us...all of us...lineholders and RSV's.
My statement was not make to pit the BH's against the RSV's, but more so that the new officers can represent our local 70 voices in an even way - not one sided - BH or RSV!!!! Got it! You people must really be stupid to think otherwise....having a mix of BH and RSV's in office is good, however, it is swaying to the side of RSV's....that is all I meant!!!!!

Also, RSV's, you can thank Carol Austin (40+ years of seniority) and the other VERY senior people for your RSV system. She is the negotiations person!!!!! Get a RSV on that JNC committee and we will get changes for the RSV's!

CA needs to retire already!
