Wal-Mart

The guys says he's content. You assume it is to his capacity or he has limitations.

I know lots of people who chose to work in lower stress/less demanding jobs for any multitude of reasons. Heck, I worked as a forklift driver at Home Depot for a while, and it was one of my favorite jobs over the past 20 years.

Anyone could be a rocket scientist. Not everyone wants to be.

I got a soft spot for soda jerks......

The Bottom Line-People will continue to shop at Wal-Mart because, well, lets face it they have good prices for their merchandise.

Since when do people give a rat's @$$ what Joe Blow is making? And why are people suddenly concerned why Joe chooses to work for minimum wage? Joe chose to drop out or become a leading member of street smarts because he didn't apply himself as my educators said...oh, please tell me they lied so that I can sue them!!!

These people were hired for an AGREED(basically this is their contract) wage and job description. So now those who know what's best for them must rise and SAVE THEM FROM THEMSELVES!

Having been union since 1983, I've seen more than my share of corruption and beating around the bush to get to the BOTTOM LINBE(Hint-$).

The destruction of the middle class involves 1)Competing with the whole world
2)Finding cheaper labor that would make it worth relocating for a business
3)Raising the minimum wage to compete with the middle class

Capitalism is based on competition. Without it the uneducated rule.

Learn Ebonics while you still can!

Hear the Swiss have no minimum wage?

How does one survive?

NYT did a hit piece on Walmart......Timothy Egan wrote a scathing rebuke against WM and the Republicans in Congress. It's worth a look......

Oh, Walmart shot back.

Wal-Mart is the poster child for great success from an ultimately flawed business model.

YES they are a low price provider of goods.
Much of what is sold there is of poor quality and must be purchased repeatedly. After all why buy a bathing suit for $25 at another store when Wal-Mart sells one for $7.50? Simple really, if the  $25 suit last 5 years and the $7.50 Wal-Mart special last one year the the Wal-mart suit is the most expensive as you've bought five versus one. (AuthorNote: This is a real world example I experienced personally) This is what I refer to as the high cost of cheap.

Wal-Mart used to make a lot of their money via having a more efficient supply chain. That gap has shrunk considerably placing pressure on profits.
WaL-Mart has admitted that they knew that by keeping wages low they dumped a bunch of cost onto the tax payers. I was essentially Corporate policy
Wal-Mart has been sued in something like 44 states for FLSA violations. They (by all account) continue the practices and quietly settle the suits that have totaled close to half a billion dollars
Wal-Mart has what amounts to non existent customer service, try to return something or get help while shopping.

Even their core market of lower middle and lower income customers are getting tired of being beat up by poor service. Profits are shrinking and they've painted themselves into a corner.

This IMO is a classic example of how the high cost of cheap kicks your ass every time. Maybe not right away but soon enough.

Diss WalMart all you want but they don't make the goods they sell. And people don't have to go there but they do and in hordes......
All those clothes and electronics are overseas made.

All the names are top brands too.....same goes for Kmart.....go to the yuppie kmart (target) if you don't like the others....or Joseph Banks.

I DO. When it becomes more profitable to provide better service they will. When it comes to the quality of their product it will change when demand changes.

I don't and won't shop there. I will poop there but that's it. They are free to do as they choose and so am I I see the kind of BS Wal-Mart pulls with their workers and I just will not be a part of any financial transaction with an amoral, unethical piece of crap enterprise. It's a free country still and I shop whom I choose

Frankly Dell it was not as cut and dried at US.

When the cockroaches came to be we always preached that you can't have customer satisfaction until you have employee satisfaction. I went toe to toe with some pretty high up guys over that.

Despite US's shortcomings they never forced an employee to clock out and continue working which was the basis of those half a billion in settlement dollars.

Violation of US labor law....and they did get their money. Foolish move on some stooge manager who probably isn't there anymore.

And I still haven't seen any fences keeping people in who want to work at WM.
I don't buy into that teary eyed union liberal notion wage wise. If you want to work unskilled that's your business.....Our glorious leader has provided avenues of help for those who WANT to improve their situation and learn a skillset. Apparently many are happy to biitch working a highly unskilled job wanting more money with nothing more to offer and don't want to improve their situation.....just sit by and wait for a union handout. Handouts, its the American way.

Look, I'm not going to launch into an Anti-Union rant or a Pro-One either. I know several people who work or have worked for Wal-Mart and their anecdotal evidence is quite compelling. The rogue store Manager line of Bull Feces is just that. The pressure places on store managers is immense and Wal-Mart doesn't care how they hit the number so long as you hit it.

I've worked side by side with seasoned retail managers who would rather continue to do Merchandising @ $12/hr then accept a management position at Wal-Mart, which speaks volumes about the company. Wal-Mart is a place to get your experience and move on to better things. Most companies will snap up a Wal-Mart employee for the simple reason they managed to last 3 years in the cesspool.

I renew my comment about Wal-Mart being amoral and unethical. The reports of a "Made in America" signs on displays and garments made almost anyplace else and their predatory pricing have been documented far and wide. They are scumbags of the first order and I refuse to shop then..
