I work with a guy.  Older gentleman (60 I think).  He has been with the company for 12 years.  He is an assistant (entry level with the company) and he is content doing this.  Having spoken with him that is as far as he is going.  He does not have what it takes to move up to be a supervisor much less a manager.  As xUT said, he has reached his capacity.  I know many like him.  Nothing wrong with it.  Not everyone can be a rocket scientist.  Everyone has limitations.

Wal-Mart is a private company and they can operate it as they please.

Those of us who think Wal-Mart is a piece of excrement on multiple levels have the option in a free society to choose where we shop. If you shop at Wal-Mart then you approve of the way they do business.

If not then don't darken their doorstep. When business falls off they will either change or go broke.

ME" I go into a Wal-Mart only to use the rest room. For me it's symbolic. Literally "Dumping" on Wal-Mart.

I know lots of people who chose to work in lower stress/less demanding jobs for any multitude of reasons. Heck, I worked as a forklift driver at Home Depot for a while, and it was one of my favorite jobs over the past 20 years.

Anyone could be a rocket scientist. Not everyone wants to be.

No, not everyone can be a rocket scientist.  Not all those who could want to but that is very different from saying anyone can do it.  My wife is a hospice nurse and by all accounts a damn good one.  Not everyone can do what she does.  I know I could not.  Not everyone can be on a special ops team or a fighter pilot.  Everyone has limitations.

How can you call Wal-Mart a truly private company when taxpayers are covering a large percentage of their labor costs?

For what little it's likely worth from me Tree; that's arguably your best post ever. We're, all of us, merely human beings...No two of us ever the same, but all DO have value. Our life experiences, upbringing, "education", egos, genetically allowed abilities by accident of birth, and the severe limitations of our barely-outta'-the-trees point in evolution, far too often preclude us all from extracting our heads outta' our arses and seeing that seemingly obvious truth.

The ONLY way to address every issue posted is to stay the hell out of the stores. No Business, No Company. I haven't shopped in a Wal-Mart in 15 years.
