Big differenct there xUT...when my local grocery decided to open a deli, my city/county/state gave them zero, zip, nada tax breaks and incentives. Walmart on the other hand gets tax breaks on the property, and in some cases is permitted to KEEP a portion of the sales tax collected. ANd Walmart's mode of operation is that once the tax abatement ends, they will look for an extension and if they don't get it - build another store in another community just blocks down the street.
They did that here in KC. The Kansas side of the state line is made up of many "bedroom communites" There is a Walmart in a little town called Roeland Park. The tax break Walmart got ended and Walmart is closing that store and moving to a new one less than a mile away in a little town called Mission. With tax abatements. That's why I say - even though I will never set foot in a Walmart, my tax money still goes to support them. And that is something that isn't factored into the "low prices everyday" mantra.
