Well said!
Hasn't been to a Family owned and operated business either apparently. Buyers like Signals know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Last time I bought major appliances (Ref. Washer & Dryer) I went to Wal-Mart, Best Buy and the local hardware store. Prices @ Wal-Mart =$1,841 (plue $40 delivery), Best Buy was $10 more. The local store came in at just under $1,900 all in.
The manufacturers run a bit of a scam here and that is the Mom & Pop stores can't get the same exact product as the big box retailers. In my case the appliances were Hotpoint which is GE's discount brand. The local store told me to check the model numbers at Best Buy and Wal-Mart and he would "Get as close as I can" with a comparable model and price. Turned out the local guy was the better deal as his refridgerator had glass shelves instead of wire.
In the end I paid $20 more, got glass shelves that would have added $30 to the big box retailers price, not only delivered but set up and connected as the dryer was gas AND the money stayed local and this store sponsored the Little Leauge teams and was very active in the volunteer community.
The point being is that if you do your homework buying locally can result in little or no premium plus the added benefit of keeping the money in the community. Wal-Mart is no panecea when it comes to price. What they count on is consumer laziness. They stock virtually everything and the person is already there so they buy. Pricing at Wal-Mart is a shell game and I for one refuse to play.
Sparrow. What you went through to get your 'bargain' sounded like too much work.
I know a couple of guys in Boston....where you could have got Anything you needed, at huge savings.
Only slight problem is that they don't deliver, and you have to take delivery right from the back of the Truck at very specific hours,(usually between 2-4 AM) and constantly Changing locations, Plus they don't have any warrantee or Return policy's ! ! !
These dudes told me that there profit margins were off-the-charts, despite the deep discounts

Ahhh The Homeboy Shopping Network! Are they still in business?
Hmm, but yet your beloved IAM gave out Walmart giftcards for Christmas in CLT...
That would be on the local, its officers
Funny how you and other pro biz republicans knock the Prez for bringing in big business for policy advice and council, yet call him him a commie socialist out of the other side of your mouth.
Pick a side dude. Or is it just anti anything that he does?
