Mr. Kelleher pointedly ignored Mr. Arpey's dare to take on American at D/FW, telling senators, "American Airlines does not exactly welcome interlopers with warm milk and graham crackers."

The first sign of intelligence is the ability to choose your battles wisely. It is obviously much more beneficial for SWA to remain at Love than to move to DFW, just as it is much more beneficial for AA to have SWA remain at Love than to move to DFW.

IMHO, if AA can't be profitable on $20 billion in revenue, pity them having to match SWA's $59 fares to Chicago, Seattle, Denver, etc. AA will still be able to get away with marginally higher fares out of DFW where there is limited head-to-head LCC competition than if SWA was in their house.

That being said, I understand the resistance to moving any operations to DFW but I'm wary that in the long term, SWA's failure to move to DFW while the good real estate is available may prove detrimental down the road when their North Texas ops eventually outgrow the capacity Love Field. I guess that's why I'm just an employee instead of upper management! 🙂
