TWA was not a defunct airline ???? Then what would you call it ?? BK 2 or 3 times and then purchased....TWA is not a "defunct" airline. The others in the poll are. Northwest is not defunct. America West is not defunct. Continental, soon to be called United, is not defunct. An acquired airline is not a defucnt airline.

Interested in your response.... thanks.
Most airlines have been in bankruptcy. American purchased TWA and got its routes, equipment, and employees (until furloughed). The BK during the purchase, as everyone should know by now, was a tactic to cherry pick TWA's assets on the cheap right out of the courthouse. TWA lives on through American, just like NWA lives on through Delta. That's a good thing, right?

Like the lamb lives on through the lion.
Defunct-ceases to exist. Sorry,TWA is defunct.
Thank you, 777flyer, You're fighting a noble but loosing battle....any positive or objective mention of TWA and this thread will be closed tout de suite per usual.....I'm wondering how many people would keep the AA spirit alive..."should she be bought by another carrier?"

--------Sad, but true! ------ Oh by the way, let's not forget one of the main reasons TWA went into bankruptcy was to get reed of Carl Ichan and his poison pill Karabu and clear the way for AA to purchase them. ------ Let's face it, I believe this was all orchestrated anyway! At the time, Carty wanted AA to be number one! And buying TWA was the fastest way he could do just that!
With Delta and Northwest, both formerly bankrupt airlines, which is the lion and which is the lamb? Is Northwest defunct? When Continental paints all their aircraft "United" , are they then defunct?Like the lamb lives on through the lion.

The posting wasn't intended on getting one AAer against another. We all know how happy working at AA makes us everyday.
Still just yesterday, I ran into an a couple from Italy travelling on the Airtrain at JFK. In my broken Italian, I assisted in giving them directions to Terminal 5, they were not looking for Jetblue. They had fond memories of TWA, and wanted to get some photos of the building, where they had met 40 years before when they travelled on TWA from MXP and FCO to the states.
Yes, now they were flying back to MXP, on AA.
Casey and Crandall built AA's culture to be business first ( take the salad olives off, save a penny) . Sadly, their vision of the airline industry's future was correct.
Today, AA's labor unions are the new olives.
TWA is not dead, but lives on in the miinds of those who it touched.
