Just wondering, for all us furloughees and those who leave without coming back....Does anyone know of a way or system to give/sell uniforms to current workers?

They are so expensive when we first get them, that it would be a shame to throw away if you can sell or give them away!

Donate them to the Goodwill or another Charity-tax write off...

You can't donate airline uniforms or sell them to non-airline employees, it is now against the law since 9/11.

I going to use mine when I change oil, muck out stables, or run out of t.p. 😛

Maybe email the justplanenews.com guy and see if he can set something up on his site. We are going to all ramp at my station so we have a bunch of people that need to offload Customer Service Clothes.

Bonfire at 2345 Crystal Drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll bring the marshmallows!!!!!!!!!!

I know of no provision in the law that prohibits this. If you could point out the statute that might, I'd appreciate this. Btw, some companies, such as EBay have provisions that disallow sale using their facilities.

Can't tell you the exact statute, but I believe it could be covered under the Patriot Act. It is also specifically against company policy as stated in the FOM(or equivalent) which means it would be considered an FAR violation. Disposing of old uniforms and protecting current uniforms is now considered a matter of airline security.

Furthermore, I think it is just common sense in our post 9/11 world. Why help the bad guys?

On a side note, I just heard a story of a UA captain who transitioned to a new fleet. He decided to sell his old Aircraft Flight Manual on the internet! He ended up getting some significant time off and had to retrieve the manual at a personal cost of around $10,000.

Jetz,
Good thought. I downloaded and word searched the Patriot Act text and the word uniform appears 3 times, all in relations to "uniform protection of federal reserve facilities"

Great Idea EVprincess. There are going to be a lot of newbies and the uniform prices have always been outrageous, so perhaps they want to buy them at a signifigant discount!

You might ask an active employee to post what you're looking to discard on one of the bulletin boards in the break room. I see signs in the crew rooms all the time with a list of uniforms items available. You might be able to get a little money back!

Good luck!
