What's new

Why is US charging $1 for bottled water and $2 for Coke?

I would take it even further. How about "vending machines" to purchase coupons for drinks, blankets, food etc at the gates. I dont know what etc is but Im sure its coming!! Mama

Receipts are usually part of the BOB.

I am more than happy to supply these to those who ask(we could use more though as it becomes a more common request).

Paying w/ ,pennies what a profound and counter-productive way to upset people who had no say in the decision to begin with.

Good luck.

If they're committed to this, then I wouldn't mind it at all. Set them up right next to the boarding line. Remember that hideous AA Bistro thing that American had in the 90's? They had this huge tub of who-knows-what food sitting next to the boarding line and you could grab them on the way onto the plane...free of course...

Come to think of it, US can take one or two of the Juniper/Barclays vultures, setup up a concession stand and rake it in BEFORE the flight...let them board the plane with all of that food in-hand. Sounds like a great idea. I can just see it now... Then the question...to tip or not to tip?

They arent. Coffee and Tea are $1, everything else non alcoholic is $2.
Beverages
Non-alcoholic: $2*
Coca-Cola Classic
Diet Coke
Sprite
Diet Sprite Zero
Minute Maid Apple Juice
Minute Maid Cranberry Apple Cocktail
Minute Maid Orange Juice
Dannon Water
Seagram's Tonic Water
Seagram's Seltzer Water
Seagram's Ginger Ale
Mott's Tomato Juice
Mr. & Mrs. 'T' Bloody Mary Mix

Anything else to try to stir up?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure I read that bottled water was $1 in the closed thread, so I looked through it and found it:

My experience today LAX-CLT:

A few complainers. Not too many takers, mostly waters. The water bottles were sold for $1, not $2, but the cans of soda/juices were sold for $2.

The FA keps repeating "Does anybody care to purchase a beverage today?" as she wheeled her cart down the aisle.

Thats the best idea EVER.

Ironicly, HP did the same thing for thier meals some time ago.

They did sell the bottled water for $1 on my flight, which was on 8/1. But all other accounts I have read since then referenced $2 for water, so I presume that my FA's made a mistake. I was in F on the return, so I did not hear the announcement.

How about one of those hot-dog carts or an over-the-neck vending tray (like at the ballgame) and have guys wandering through the boarding line selling stuff. Cotton candy, peanuts, hot dogs, snow cones, you name it.

Maybe they can also get some of the laid-off skycaps in on this new business opportunity. The problem will be getting it past the company with the concession contract at the airport. Something tells me they wouldn't like this plan one bit.

Just the thought of that brand new A321's beautiful leather seats dripping in snow-cone juice makes me shiver with anticipation.

Bottled, purified water is the greatest ruse perpetrated on the American consumer since US Airways First Class.

You take the BASE INGREDIENT of every soft drink (purified water) and you put it in a bottle and sell for the same price as a soft drink without doing anything else to it.

And, for those of you who don't know what purified means...it's typically municipal tap water that's put through reverse osmosis.

It shouldn't be $2. It should be free.
There is plenty of potable water on board the aircraft, free of charge. Just like everywhere else in the world, drinking fountains remain free; bottled water you must pay for.

Point?

So why do so many FAs make icky-poo faces when I tell them I’ll take two cups of potable water if they don’t have enough stock to give me a full can of soda water?

New FA sales contest; first prize a Cadillac, second prize a set of steak knives, third prize you’re fired!

Your breath, maybe? 😱

If and I've heard the answer is yes I can get a reciept for anything I purchase in coach then frankly I don't care what they charge.

Think about it, which is better? A coke that you buy out of your own pocket or one you can get a reciept for and turn in on your expenses?

Granted a free coke is better and should be the norm, but on the Flying Trailer Park it isn't. In the end if $4.00 is going to break you then maybe youcan't afford to fly.

The true unbundlers have credit card/debit card readers that give you a receipt. NK will always give you a receipt, for example.

US Airways is cash only. They are only a quasi unbundler in that they charge fully for services but don't think it through when they take things away (especially if they have already charged for those services).

How backward is that??????????
