Teamsters "raiding" TWU?

Teamsters, or any union can request a member list of information from the company. The NMB condones this type of informational sharing and is afforded by law.

Yep thats how they got my address. When the reamsters made a run on FX several years back I and all my co workers had a visit from a reamster rep. They guy who came to my house to tell me how the great benefits reamsters would offer me as a mechanic. He was a nice enough guy I asked him what he did. He said he was a UPS truck driver. I said no offense but what could you possibly know about my job and what they can do for me? I told him no offense but when I worked for NWA it was the same thing. The ramp ran our local when I was IAM there we didn't have a say on anything. I told him you are not an aircraft mechanic and do not know what my issues are and I resent being in an industrial catch all union. Also add to that I told him Hoffa flew on NW when I was on strike there. I said that alone would ensure I would never sign a reamster card.

I doubt very much the company gave out the list of information. The company is very very happy with the TWU. The company gets whatever they want with the TWU in return for certain privileges. The Teamsters would have to start all over to get where the TWU has been since 1946. The company would not do that. The TWU is the one that gave out the addresses and the telephone numbers. All this to create a interference drive to side track the REAL drive that is AMFA. The TWU has lost its membership for now. They are hoping that over time we will forget this latest fiasco and move on. The Teamsters are never going to file and the TWU knows this. Are we that stupid to NOT see through all this smoke and mirrors?

Sign a AMFA card today and lets end this foolishness. Do we not have enough stress at the work place today? Do we need the Teamsters to create more false hopes? The TWU created this mess and instead of reducing the problem they create more by having the Teamsters come in and feed us a line of crap.

Sign a AMFA card TODAY.

Hey a few years ago I was able to see how the Teamsters
Do an orginizing campaign, if your getting calls and seeing them at your door, It's real.. the question for you is do you want to be part of an association or a labor organization. If your getting along with the company the association is a great way to go (Northwest)... But if your not go with a labor union (united). Your choose.

I read this book several years ago but would not characterize it the same way at all. In fact, re-familiarizing myself with more recent reviews, I can hardly come to the same conclusions you do that labor leaders worked hand in hand with corporate "big wigs".

The Teamsters were never included in the negative writings of this book and in fact took great and purposeful strides to include all members including women and people of color into the common ranks of members. This prejudice, or lack of equality is much of what this book describes.

have you Read "from the ashes of the Old" by Stanley Aronowitz? hardly an endorsement for radicalism but a well written objective critique of what has gone wrong with the labor movement. One of the best lines in the book was how he described entrenched powers within the labor movement citing the lack of true democratic action he said that top labor leaders are usually removed by "death or indictment".

There is something wrong with Labor Leaders getting annual increases in pay while their members give concessions.

Here we go with the association vs labor thing. Amazing how the Northwest issue keeps coming up. This is getting old. Please do some research before posting. This has been brought up many times by newbies posting here.

Look at the TWU organization vs the Teamsters organization especially in the ATD division. The TWU is better. Not saying much about the TWU but that puts the Teamsters in a worse comparison. AMFA is a CRAFT union for CRAFT workers in OUR field. Get it?

You keep posting comments like this and others on this board will rip you apart. I will just sit back and watch them tear you up on their replies. May I suggest you do some research on your own before posting. You might have a decent chance on holding your own. Good Luck.

Well if they gave it to one group then they would have to give it to any group, otherwise that would open the company up to a lawsuit from the group they turned down. In effect they would be interfering with the memberships right to choose representation and favoring one over another.

I have no idea how ot what information was given out, I did get complaints from members but while I did recieve a phone call, which is no suprise because my number is on the website, I didnt recieve anything in the mail.

A couple of months ago two reps from the Teamsters popped in at the hangar.
I told one of them I would gladly vote for them as my new bargaining agent if they would guarantee me UPS mechanics wage and benefits.
He immediately went into , "ER, WELL YOU KNOW, UPS DOESN'T HAVE THAT MANY MECHANICS, AND ER, YA KNOW, THEY OUTSOURCE JUST ABOUT ALL MAINTENANCE WORK, ER YA KNOW....BLAH BLAH BLAH."

Is the Teamsters a Union or a Brotherhood?

International Brotherhood of Teamsters

Isnt the KKK also a Brotherhood?

http://www.splcenter...erhood-of-klans

Does the similar verbage in the title mean the organizations are similar? I dont think so.

International Association of Machinists

Airline Pilots Association

Association of Professional Flight Attendants

The AFL-CIO contains scores of other organizations that identify themselves as Associations, Brotherhoods etc, do they all not qualify as unions?

Then there are organizations that have the word Union in them that arent;
American Airlines Credit Union.

It seems odd that a Teamster Supporter who is trying to raid would go after a rival raiding union because the rivals title does not include the word 'Union" in it when neither does the Union he is supporting.

Bob I'll give you my package if you want. It is still sealed. Never opened it.
We all know the TWU gave out the information but you can not convince some on this board.

Wanna compare UPS mechanics' contract to ours?

Go ahead but I can tell you that in the Teamsters the UPS guys have their own local (local 2727) and they do not want any other AMT's in their local. This is why UAL/CAL are in what ever locals they geographically fall in. It is called dilution. Strength in numbers works but only if you are united. Having UPS united is strength. We would be in the .013% category of the Teamsters. Hardly any strength at all. UPS do not want us in their local and UAL/CAL is proof of this. You know that UAL/CAL are not making the same wages as UPS. Why is that? Teamsters is not the answer for us at AA. I would rather stay with the TWU before getting tossed in the mix with the Teamsters and never be heard of again. At least with the TWU we know what to expect.

I agree the IBT is not the answer. I don't want them either. I am only comparing UPS mechanics to us. So in that respect, they're doing better than us across the board.

Let's also remember that UPS mechs contract becomes amendable Nov of 2013. Preetty sure they will be moving up once again as the company continues to produce billions upon billions in profits... Our contract is currently open and we will be going after UPS wages, as our dispatchers were allowed to compare to UPS.
By the time we get our contract with UPS wages (currently) then they will nego a new contract taking them right back to the top, over and above in 2013.

Oh no, our illustrious labor leaders would never help "the man."

Of course, it was to fight commies and to promote pro U.S. (U.S. corporations) sentiment.

If you get even within a dollar or two of UPS wages, I'll sign another amfa card myself. Good luck with that. They are around $53 an hour correct?
