I know CB can't comment but I'm sure the company would like to get catering as well as freight at AA. To me both shoudn't even be on the table.

AA has never done it's own catering anywhere, and AA only has TWU staffed freight at the hubs.

I understand that but they shouldn't have to give it up if joint talks ever get around to happening

These are the "synergies" DP is expecting to realize with the merger. Outsourcing of IAM/TWU represented jobs is what they will be after. Wheather it's jobs in catering, outline stations, the tower, freight or the hubs; all will be subject to the company's desire to lower costs through outsourcing. Scope language now becomes a concern of every member. Regardless of the size of the station you work in. Union represented jobs, with their defined benefits, work rules and wages are what they're after with this merger. Reducing overhead cost and passing the savings on to the shareholders and Executive Officers is the objective of any merger. Any dues paying member who thinks they're immuned to this agenda, regardless of the station you work in, has got they're head in the sand. It's time for the membership to WAKE UP and resist this erosion of middle class, union represented jobs. It's time to make the preservation of our work priority one. In order to negotiate better working conditions you must first preserve the work. Wheather you're in a hub, focus city or an outline station; Scope should be the primary concern. Lock and Load Brothers and Sisters. The assault is on the horizon.

The way I see it... Catering can only go away if the company and union both agree to it. Catering is currently contractually protected in several hub stations, including CLT and PHL. Any new agreements would have to strike that language to eliminate Catering.
You are correct. DP can't get rid of catering unless the union agrees to. No way our NC would even consider that in this agreement.  Hopefully, in any joint agreement, the combined alliance leaves this alone.  Delaney tossed out cargo out of sCO when he waived off a part of their agreement and lost that work that was protected under the sCO merger protections. Delaney himself said the company can't harmonize itself out of the sCO agreement and said he would fight like hell and arbitrate, but he signed off on it with a LOA that we intercepted.  Hopefully, whoever is on the next NC for joint talks has the stones and intelligence and education to challenge these profane actions.  At the end of the day, Delaney balked and said that the business plan at sUA didn't allow cargo so that sCO cargo was doomed. A false reality indeed and shameful. No doubt he will say the same thing, if allowed, about catering.   Catering survived bankruptcy so it should continue to strive.  Using United as a model of this eboard, we should be vigilant that the same doesn't happen to US AIRWAYS brothers and sisters, as a lot of things that survived bankruptcy at United were freely tossed away by the current IAM141 eboard.

*BINGO*

Same story with the Tower and any of the other functions that have been discussed on here of late.

If AH & Co. want these classifications gone so bad, the NC needs to at least make 'em work for it.
There is no current company proposal on the table that offers less scope than what is already in the contract. I'm sure that the company will test those waters in joint talks, and try to hoodwink the hell out of the union like it did at United joint talks.

I've been reading posts about AH from all of you for years. I have no doubt that at some point there'll be an attempt to do just that. And why not? It's worked before, right?

And when it does, instead of the NC turning to the membership and saying "we gotta give (Tower, CLP, a bunch of line stations) up to ave catering," it'll be nice when this time they look at AH and announce that if he wants it, he needs to give them (X/Y/Z) first...

Our union is at the crossroads and has given up thousands of middle class jobs for part time jobs.  United will become UPS with 80% part time workers.  Delta won't have as much part time.  This IAM leadership loves the hell out of it since it will mean double the membership and twice the dues.  You guys think I'm joking?  The IBT model is a part time union with the majority part time in the entire membership. Damn near 80% at UPS.  And it brought in hundreds of thousands of members since it sliced things to part time.   It's all about the dues with these leaders. Hawaiian got F over by this eboard and United got F over with its joint contract.  You guys don't think your joint contract will F you over with the same guys?  I sat in a breakroom yesterday and a NC member stopped by and all the right things were said regarding your current stand alone talks,  same wages as AMR complete with retro and a wage parity, full sick pay, more holidays, more vacation, more scope, no health care increases, same part time %.   Who could argue with that, especially more scope!  I fully support that position!  True, things can change but if this is where the NC is at, then I think this should be the absolute bottom offer.

That said, my understanding is that Jerry Glass is the guy who is at negotiations now for the company. That should mean that things are winding down and that the company expects a ta within 3-6 months, maybe earlier. And before anyone slams Jerry Glass like they did AH, last I checked, nobody is twisting the IAM NC arms over the years.  The IAM leadership has been quick to play management and say, "What you gonna give up",  "Management can do that",  "The reality of the situation is against you",  "I'll ask management",  "This is the best you are going to do".   "That's all that is on the table",  "Take this now and we will be stronger next time."      "We had a knife to our back and a gun to our head,"

All of those are quotes from the IAM, not management.  In fact, when management signs a concessionary anti labor agreement like at United,  it sits back and the IAM 141 eboard became its mouthpiece.  Skeptical indeed. We know.

As I said before, Tim, I am very content to keep voting "No" on anything that reduces scope as I happy enough with the existing CBA, even while I recognize it is far from perfect.

I think that's the message that needs to get out to the Membership... our CBAs don't expire, they are amended.  I mention this because I speak with other people at PHX and so many think once the contract is over, we could be laid-off, as it would happen in typical business contracts.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that the IAM saved catering jobs. It's more like they sacrificed over 20 out stations to keep it. That's my take on it from under the bus.

That would be correct, Armedio and the PHL gang refused to give up catering, even though the company offered to just absorb the jobs into the ramp.

I hear ya. That's what I had in mind when I wrote that this morning...

Sure would be nice to see the AVPs BUFs & MKEs of the world get some people back. Not holding my breath, though...

One interesting thing about Catering is this... in CLT, and probably PHL, the Fleet Service jobs in that depart comprise around 20% of the total hub workforce. (Charlie Brown would know the numbers better than me.) Losing it would create a huge displacement in at least two major hubs... and I’m pretty sure the Company doesn't want to create a major dispute by attempting it at this time.

Another interesting aspect is that over the years, several contractors such as LSG Sky Chefs, Ogden, Marriott, and Dobbs House, all submitted comprehensive bids to acquire the departmental functions of Catering. At the end of the day, none of the proposals proved to be more cost effective, proficient, and quality oriented than the work Fleet Service provided!

So, in my opinion, if the Company wants Catering, it will only be to mirror image AA practices, and not necessarily a huge cost savings move. In fact, it would more than likely cost them more to contract it out than to keep it!

What contract are you talking about?

Of course, nobody should be compelled to vote in a new contract as a matter of necessity.  IMO, a release won't happen and the extended delays is something that hurts management more than the workforce.  They are asking for retro so it won't be like anyone will be screwed out of money.  A buyout is also on the table but imo it probably needs serious work.
