The duty of fair representation is incumbent upon U.S. labor unions that are the exclusive bargaining representative of workers in a particular group. It is the obligation to represent all employees fairly, in good faith, and without discrimination. Originally recognized by the United States Supreme Court in a series of cases in the mid-1940s involving racial discrimination by railway workers' unions covered by the Railway Labor Act, the duty of fair representation also applies to workers covered by the National Labor Relations Act and, depending on the terms of the statute, to public sector workers covered by state and local laws regulating labor relations.

The issue of OT in the large stations will become insignificant if Scope language is not secured in future contract negotiations. Without scope, jobs will be eliminated in outline stations. The inevitiable bumping into the stations that rely on overtime, will certainly dry up the OT in the affected stations. There is limited OT in the outline stations. Conceed Scope and it will be coming to the larger stations. The "synergies" the company expects to reap with the merger. Double time does not happen in an outline station. The company plans to extend this to the larger stations by coming after scope. Get It?

If there is a bunch of OT available that means there should be more people working, as long as there are people on layoff, no one should be working overtime and you shouldnt live beyond your means

Its not the union's responsibility to ensure someone is doing their job, that is management and if you tell someone they arent doing their job, the will have you in the office for harassment.

Members who rely on OT don't care about members on layoff. They have their own resons for looking out for themselves. My point is... forget about scope and your OT and the reasons you need it won't matter. It will be eliminated by members in the outline stations, whose jobs were eliminated with the lack of good scope language, that bump into openings in OT driven stations. Think scope is not a large station issue? Think again Brothers and Sisters.

tim,

I didn't ask how secure you felt about phx. I asked how many  people showed up at the local to nominate artie and your ticket? If you do not know that's ok, but my guess is less than 100. Doesn't really speak for all of phx now does it. PRez, do you know how many showed up at the local for nominations in phx?
About 50. Just to clarify, I won my nomination and all but 3 of my team won too.

So the deception becomes clearer
about the only thing that i could possibly agree with over any of your statement the last week is the undeniable fact that there really is going to be a huge turnout. I was in breakrooms today and everyone just had one question, "when is the vote?"
we have close to 6,000 in ord and if 3,000 came out i wouldnt be surprised.

I find it hard to believe that people would ask " when is the vote "?......They actually didn't know?. Do they actually know whom they are voting for ?....

I don't think it's living beyond our means, it's just that more deductions keep getting bigger and no raises to off set the cost of living. Our last raise (.19 cents) did not off set the rise of the med. increase. We are in our 3rd year with out a raise.

yes, they know exactly who thry are voting for in ord...change.
And we will b constantly reminding them here with flyers that get out the vote.
Starts in just over 2 weeks!

We dont even have to remind them how bad they are getting screwed now.
Mike, i know u said you want to keep the current usair candidates even though most of them hosed us with the 2008 contract but please consider voting for new united candidates instead of supporting the ones who pushed the united contract.

anything over a 50 % turnout in CLT will be stunning to me, the only thing that could change that would be a TA vote at the same time.
AS I recall recall the last contract vote wasn't much over 50%

...And instead of fighting, the lack of raises and/or increase in employee-borne costs are often rationalized by thinking, "welp, I can just make that up with a little OT, I guess."

...And exactly how has that worked at AA over the last 10-12 years Kev?
While the leaders continue to receive their six figures and the members fight amongst themselves, real people are losing real homes and real cars. Real people can't pay real medical peoples...why? because of concessions from all those years ago. But of course, the financial consultants here accuse those folks of over spending...but hey, don't work OT and fight like hell...your leaders are getting raises while you get notices!!
