I never gave it much thought until I first became a crew chief and had guys hitting me up for OT.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone working xxx amount of hours a week, month or year to "supplement" their income. In some unions twisted way of thinking, you are doing nothing more than helping out the company. In some members twisted way of thinking, you must be in debt, in over your head, or driving a nice new fancy car to have to be working overtime.
At DFW I know at least a hundred guys who are paying $500+ in child support a month and have no choice and have to work OT.
If the freaking unions would worry more about John Doe doing his job instead of who is working the OT, maybe there wouldn't be as much need for the OT...
Any of you anti OT clowns ever thought some folks may work OT to take care of their elderly parents. Or maybe they have a certain amount they like to give each paycheck to their favorite charity.
I happen to know an individual who lost a child to sids (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and now donates to a SIDS foundation monthly.
For anyone to accuse or question someones motivation to work OT is simply bullsh**!
Nothing about getting the deadbeats to do their job in that comment.Kev3188 said:
Me either. I won't work anticipated OT until all the spots in my station are filled. Same story if/when there's a RIF. No interest in enabling short staffing, thanks.

AANOTOK I have to point out that you don't have need to constantly pull up with anger infested tirades so much. My meaning was very simple that a person should do the best they can to live within their means and that OT should be gravy on the meat. Of course there are plenty that have gotten themselves into a bind that have little to no choice but to rely on that (hopeful) extra income, IE: Family illness or the #1 enemy too many guys have "Child Support"AANOTOK said:There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone working xxx amount of hours a week, month or year to "supplement" their income. There is something wrong with working OT if you have people in your station on layoff and you're not DESPERATE for that money. Saw too many of those greedy pricks when I worked in DFW to count. Way too many.

Never said that there was anything wrong with working a little OT to maybe have a little extra something something that you might want. Or maybe once a year you want to go to Europe and not put it on the charge card. Good smart thing to use OT for.

Nice gesture on their part.

If you work OT and someone else is on layoff and would like to come back to work I will judge you. And I don't care if you like it or not. I will judge you.

Agreed.
You are conflating a desire (motivation) to work OT with some people's "need" to, and how capital uses that to their advantage.
Agreed.
If arguing that labor should be pushing for compensation packages that negate the need to work OT makes me a "clown," then so be it.
Guess we have more than one clown on this board then. Agreed.
