There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone working xxx amount of hours a week, month or year to "supplement" their income. In some unions twisted way of thinking, you are doing nothing more than helping out the company. In some members twisted way of thinking, you must be in debt, in over your head, or driving a nice new fancy car to have to be working overtime.

If the freaking unions would worry more about John Doe doing his job instead of who is working the OT, maybe there wouldn't be as much need for the OT...

Any of you anti OT clowns ever thought some folks may work OT to take care of their elderly parents. Or maybe they have a certain amount they like to give each paycheck to their favorite charity.
I happen to know an individual who lost a child to sids (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and now donates to a SIDS foundation monthly.

For anyone to accuse or question someones motivation to work OT is simply bullsh**!

C'mon man. No one's arguing against tithing or helping family out.

You are conflating a desire (motivation) to work OT with some people's "need" to, and how capital uses that to their advantage.

If arguing that labor should be pushing for compensation packages that negate the need to work OT makes me a "clown," then so be it.

As much as I hate  to say it lots of people in CLT (I'm guessing they still do) depend on overtime & imo I feel it's sad. While until the last month or so that I worked I couldn't afford to give up much time I almost never worked over time.

Me either. I won't work anticipated OT until all the spots in my station are filled. Same story if/when there's a RIF. No interest in enabling short staffing, thanks.

Read through the thread Kev...C'mon man!

Accusations are common place on these boards and you know it!

At DFW I know at least a hundred guys who are paying $500+ in child support a month and have no choice and have to work OT.

I did. I also used to work at an airfield with an employee lot full of brand new "Dualies." Just sayin'...

At any rate, I guess I'm not explaining my stance clearly enough.

Nothing about getting the deadbeats to do their job in that comment.

Oh, I agree with you on that, though to be fair, it's no a union that does the hiring/firing.

I'm currently non union. That's an accountability I'd LOVE my workforce to have back. I miss the sort of self-policing I used to see.

AANOTOK I have to point out that you don't have need to constantly pull up with anger infested tirades so much. My meaning was very simple that a person should do the best they can to live within their means and that OT should be gravy on the meat. Of course there are plenty that have gotten themselves into a bind that have little to no choice but to rely on that (hopeful) extra income, IE: Family illness or the #1 enemy too many guys have "Child Support"

But no I have no sympathy for those who live beyond their means by CHOICE. We all want that big screen, fancy car or hot looking chickie on our arm. But a smart man knows he doesn't need extra materials to impress anyone and won't hock himself to his eyeballs perpetrating a myth that he's more than he really is.

If that's the person you are then that's on you and you have no one to blame but yourself for mismanaging your life.

There is something wrong with working OT if you have people in your station on layoff and you're not DESPERATE for that money. Saw too many of those greedy pricks when I worked in DFW to count. Way too many.

Never said that there was anything wrong with working a little OT to maybe have a little extra something something that you might want. Or maybe once a year you want to go to Europe and not put it on the charge card. Good smart thing to use OT for.

Nice gesture on their part.

If you work OT and someone else is on layoff and would like to come back to work I will judge you. And I don't care if you like it or not. I will judge you.

Guess we have more than one clown on this board then. Agreed.

I went THREE YEARS without working OT due to layoffs. I was not going to do it either. I even refused mandatory white slips back in DFW.

Back in 05 we were so short staffed that we had whole gates unbid. Management loved it because all they did was offer OT like candy to the little money whores. Morning crews were getting 6, 7 and even 8 hours OT to fill the slots. I heard those pricks talk about buying boats with all the money they were getting.

There are people to this day that I used to like that I've never spoken to again. They tried to get me to talk to them and I would ignore them as if they were a fart in the air.
