There was a bond issue passed some time ago called Vision 2025 and I believe there was a convenant included to maintain a given number of jobs in Tulsa if AMR took the money - they did. I would guess they've been working with the anti-union SOB of a mayor Tulsa elected day and night to minimize the employment that must be maintained before running afoul of said covenants.

I've been wrong before, but this mayor laid off police while not cutting the pay of the most worthless group of people in city government - his own office. It would seem that anything this twit can do to stab a worker, especially if they are union (police were FOP), he takes great delight in.

How many TWU represented jobs are there in MOC? I thought it was mostly management/specialist plus some clerical.

Probably makes sense to be closer to SOC, but I wouldn't go gnashing teeth about the base being closed/spun-off just yet.

If Engineering moves, well....

Not sure if this includes, as you said, Engineering/ Tech Specialists, which are TWU represented.

AA is trying to streamline their OPS. AA is also moving marjory of their A/C parts to DFW because its better for their OPS more FTL from DFW. If AA never spun their MRO in TUL would be to save money and it would put pressure on union to sign a deal that works for them. For now I don't see it because they'll lose more by trying to sell or spinning it off. AA won't get what they're looking for. No wonder they haven't spun AE as yet.

FYI
MRO does not equal OH.

The cost of the move, in the name of "streamlining" doesn't seem reasonable unless there is another agenda.

Spinoff, or sale of the Heavy Maintenance Operations should not be dismissed. AMR does not own the land, or the buildings.

Sell the equipment, and agree to a longterm maintenance contract for the AA jets. The jets are maintained at the same location, by the same people, (now working for a new employer) and AMR walks away with millions.

A sad day in the history of AA. People no longer matter, it's all dollars these days.

How much will the cost of the move be offset by savings or efficiencies elsewhere?

Will having the MOC guys working side by side with the sector managers and dispatchers be able to reduce some of the operational problems, or speed up schedule recovery when crap hits the fan? That's probably not quantifiable, but there's something to be said about having real bodies at SOC. The war-room is great, but if the MOC planner, sector manager, and whoever else are able to physically walk over to the dispatcher's desk, that's value. Trying to get everyone connected by phone eats up time, and is too tempting for participants to be half-engaged (I've lost count of how many times I've hit the mute button while on a conference call to do something else for just a second...). Harder to do that when you're face to face.

Then you have to figure out how much time MOC managers & analysts spend flying between HDQ and TUL for meetings with ops planning, SOC, capacity planning, fleet planning, etc.? Even day trips cost money.

I agree if that never happens!!

SOC and MOC all working "side by side" ? As in the same room?

Big room.

If this is so cost effective, wonder why it has not already been done. No one smart enough to figure it out until now?? Two years to accomplish?

For a company that doesn't post a profit, just seems like a project that would not pass a cost of capital test.

Sort of like a guy who isn't current on his mortgage planning a room addition.

I guess the "streamlining" story is just a little thin for me, but I've been wrong before. After all, airlines are famous for having one office processing job applications, while another office down the hall is sending out layoff notices.

Hope I'm wrong!!!
