They can crunch numbers all day long and they will not be able to come up with an equation that predicts the weather.

I think they will rue the day they closed down BOS & LGA.

Can you believe this crap? Way to go by offering Vacation Buy Back and not offering leaves just to get an unncessary number of reserves to cover one week. Any word on leaves for Jan? Why can't the union get involved and put some pressure on to offer leaves? They have no idea how much it imapcts the lives of people. Many of us have families and children.

IF the company were to offer leaves, it wouldn't be until after Jan 4th, 2010. They will protect the holiday season, then decide about leaves and such. Time to dust of the Reserve Handbook for some people!

Ran across this article. Seems to echo of lot of the sentiment posted here about (whats going on with employees at) US Airways.
Interesting.

Recession intensifies GenX discontent at work

Article

The closest place you will find Gen X'ers at US Airways is company headquarters. You will find few among FA's and the pilots, with some on the ramp and in customer service.

I love how this company has people back on RSV in phl and clt to 1989 seniority for December and offer buyback. Makes me sick. No buyouts either and not a peep about voluntary furlough packages to date. Meanwhile I get more junior by the day. It's sickening. I hope every single reserve calls out next month. I'm sick to death of being kicked around sitting in base in the 25 hour bucket on this horrendous LTO prison.
So angry...

Yes, many of us did grow up in the 90's I know it's hard to believe.

In one of the Elines that dealt with the base closures the union mentioned that they would pursue a buyout. I hope that they are hard at work and in the trenches for a decent one WITH healthcare.

I actually think that GEN-X article is spot on. I have long said that US is the worst case scenario in demographics. A forty-four year old GEN-X, which by the way we do have a lot of, won't move up in seniority for another 5-10 years, and then they'll have at max ten years to have even minimal seniority. The promised payoff isn't going to arrive.

I just flew with a woman who has had Christmas off for the last thirty years. She's been at all of her kids events, taken them traveling and managed to make a lot of money in the 90's. Her kids were old enough then that it wasn't a big deal to fly so much. Basically she's had a demographic dream during her career at US> She got in at the right time and she'll be retiring at about 68 years old if there's no attractive buyout to move her along. That's another 8-10 years from now. Why? Healthcare and because she CAN. She was probably 19 when she started flying. Forty years later she's only 59.

That my darlings, is the demographic armageddon that is US, because there's a lot of this woman out there. Guess what? It gets worse. This contingent will start having grandchildren that they want to spoil and be with EVERY holiday. There is no end in sight.

I don't blame them. They're smart, hanging onto a good thing. I do blame our management for not seeing the fallout from not buying them out, and while not all would go, a significant number would go for the right money and for healthcare coverage.

This is the issue that the reserves should be clamoring about. Nothing can be done with LTO outside a new agreement, but here and now is the time for a buyout and the reserves and those of us about to fall over the abyss need to start yelling now:

GIVE THEM HEALTHCARE AND MONEY!!!!

That is the only real solution to the stagnation.

If you go into Wings, under Inflight then click Base Closure Info it states in the LGA Base Closure Q&A that "buyouts will not be offered at this time." MERRY CHRISTMAS FOLKS!

Is there ever going to be any relief for the lowly reserve?

Congrats to the PHX flight attendants for picketing on Friday! I tip my hat to you.

This is the most authentic, honest and painstakingly truthful post I have ever read on this board in regard to our Flight Attendant situation here at LCC.

"The promised payoff is never going to arrive". You broke it down to the most minute particle.

I applaud you for the courage to say it straight w/no chaser. The truth is really hard to deny when its in black and white, unless one chooses not to face the reality of the situation.

"Thanks for playing the PRICE OF FLIGHT - Bob tell her what she has won"

"Your showcase begins with: RELOCATION!!!!
By signing your application and agreeing to work weekends, holidays, and relocate......the company is going to utilize that to their full advantage for the rest of your career - BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!! Isn't that great!!!!"

"You are going to paid a salary at the bottom, yes you heard me right, at the bottom of the industry and will be made to feel that you are ungrateful all while being able to legally qualify for government assistance. You are expected to be professional at all time..... but will be made to feel by the company and morons "that you have an entitlement mentality".

"You are going to stay in beautiful Essington, PA at the world famous Lagoon Inn Spa and Retreat (with a phone attached 24 hours a day) and will enjoy these wonderful activities:
How to accessorize a cell phone or beeper......while being on call.
Learning what rooms get better cell reception - which could qualify you for a job with the FCC.
Sleep deprivation and disrupted circadian rhythm......(and not the Tinto Puente Import version)
Poverty - for the PRIVILEGE of working for SWOOSH Airlines.
After paying for training you will get the privilege to purchase the Stylish SWOOSH Uniform (circa 1984 UAL)by world famous designer "Twin Hills by Stan Herman". Incidentally made in Malaysian sweat shop - where they are paid more than you.
Guaranteed the worst trips in the SWOOSH system indefinitely with only the hope of furlough.
Leaning Yiddish in your spare time between those Quick Call TLV trips....when the weather gets bad or when they re-crew.
Watching the same crews overfly every month and then the joy of working with them after they have flown 10 INTL trips back to back after commuting in from the West Coast.
Represented by a union that is only concerned with themselves (and how not to fly) and by the top 15% of the seniority list - which will NEVER GOING TO RETIRE - BECAUSE THEY CAN"T
Learning to drink excessively on your time off or if you drink already - finding a twelve step program"

 "This is ALL yours because the it's the PRICE OF FLIGHT"

"This is "Louis Sapphire" here reminding you to have your pets spayed and neutered to help control the "numbers guys" population." 😱

It's true "The promised payoff is never going to arrive"
