AFA Labor Relations Thread 10/6---

Ok hypothetically, if Jeff was asked to join a committee, does the fact that he was recalled as a Treasurer mean that he can't be paid for his time and effort on said committee?

You do remember that her "PILOT HUSBAND" was a member of the USAPA BPR at that time correct? So before you think about inferring something wrong with the "PILOT HUSBAND" finding out anything confidential from those documents, USAPA would have had to have been keeping secrets from its own BPR members for that to happen. Of course if you are correct, then that is proof that the East folks are actively treating the West folks as second or third class citizens, which we all KNOW isn't the truth.

Nice innuendo. She had ulterior motives, period. With that, I'm over talking about it for now. She stays. Kudos to you guys for putting it past you, blah blah blah.

Can we please get a voluntary package from the company sometime this week? We are 5 weeks away from our first base closure. Happy freakin' holidays.

What else would we expect from Council66? They have demonstrated every type of transgression covered in the History of Labor Unions textbook. Why would they skip Cronyism?

He was her bagman. He lost his job following her direction but she didn't. Of course she must keep him in some capacity, she owes him.

The membership recalled Jeff which means that they do not want this person doing official Union Business. Lisa and Jeff do what ever they want and have successfully neutered AFA International.

I've attended round table discussions that the JNC holds for flight attendants. It's obvious who is immersed in the issues and who is just along for the ride. It is ridiculous for Lisa to infer in her lettter to the members that Jeff is the only game in town for a seat on the JNC.

It is sad for the West Flight Attendants, but with so few flight attendants participating in the last election and the recall, I am feeling less sympathetic.

We don't have a well informed, involved membership here, we just have a collection of embarrassing fan clubs.

Dear Member,

STAFFING REDUCTIONS VIA VOLUNTARY PERSONAL LEAVES OF ABSENCE

With the announcement of the closure of the LGA and BOS domiciles effective January 31, 2010 and May 2, 2010 respectively, the Company also announced their staffing models indicated a surplus of 130 East Flight Attendants. Due to that surplus, the Company intended to offer a Voluntary Furlough pursuant to our Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Over the past three weeks, the Company has again revised their marketing plan and staffing models for 2010. The Company's latest plan now indicates that block hour reductions for the East network will only be reduced for January, February and March.
Block hour figures for the balance of 2010 will not be significantly different on the East network versus 2009. Therefore, the Company will not offer a Voluntary Furlough program and instead chosen to offer Voluntary Personal Leaves of Absences (VPLOA) for January, February and March of 2010.
Unlike a Voluntary Furlough, Flight Attendants awarded a VPLOA remain in active status and continue to receive benefits and accrue sick hours and vacation days while on the leave. Flight Attendants awarded a VPLOA will not be eligible for unemployment benefits.
The Company has announced the number of VPLOA offerings and timeline for the January 2010 VPLOA as follows:
BOS - 6
CLT - 89
DCA - 25
LGA - 10
PHL - 70
All VPLOA requests must be submitted electronically, via Wings, prior to 1200 EST, Sunday, November 29, 2009. The deadline will allow trips already awarded in Primary lines to be dropped and available in SAP and Secondary lines.
February and March VPLOA offerings will be predicated on the results of the LGA domicile closure displacements.
If any of the VPLOA offerings are undersubscribed, the Company will have to do one of two things- either maintain the current staffing levels or offer a Voluntary Furlough program.
AFA financial analysts are still working to determine if the Company's financial analysis used to justify the closure of the LGA and BOS domiciles is correct. AFA is also still evaluating a "buy out" package as a result of the Company's plan to close the two domiciles.

Christmas came early this year. This is wonderful news, IMHO. Yay. I hope the West gets good news too with LAS closing. *big Thanksgiving hug*

Does anyone know when the FAA is expected to make their ruling regarding the pilots rest etc? This affects the "me too" language we have with them along with our negotiations.

I had heard sometime after the first of the year. However, I don't know if that means Jan or Mar.

Can someone please tell me when the h-e double hockey sticks we are gonna hear where these LGA displacements are going. I can't believe afa hasn't said anything other than the posting about that read-and-sign letter for the FAA.

Oh yeah, good question about the FAA regs considering we've shelved the scheduling portion of our negotiations until Uncle Sam figures out what's appropriate for Donald and Daffy up front.

The list is out darling 😉 Lets see....

I posted this the other day ... Its on Wings under Base Closures LGA. Most (if not all) PIT people are going to DCA. Most New Yorkers (shuttle) are going to PHL. The rest are going to CLT (appx 33). Appx 5 are going to BOS.

I am going to throw up. DCA juniors, percentagewise, just got screwed. There were +40 positions, and 76 people are coming!?!?!? I'm sure most are from PIT, so happy commuting, people. I'm sure I will get displaced. I could just throw something.

Ya know, the PBGC collectors could retire with their health insurance, SAME PLAN, paid for by the IRS program, less a few dollars per week. They cry that they can't retire for insurance reasons but, like so much other stuff around here, that excuse is 100% BS. I have to say I am highly disappointed AFA hasn't mentioned squat on their site.

I'm glad I got my degree the first time I was furloughed...

From my understanding, the "openings" at PHL, DCA & CLT (1!) come after the displaced people from the closed bases choose where they want to go. I may be wrong but the people whose bases are closing can choose the base they want to go to regardless of "openings" as long as there is at least one person junior to them in that base. This bump & flush method of displacements is brutal, especially for the most junior people. The company just announced 20 openings for CLT effective Feb 2010. My guess is that all of these numbers will be adjusted again once Boston gets their bid packets Jan 11.
